Job Description
I. Technical Leadership & Coordination:
- Lead, mentor, and manage the technical office team, including junior engineers, quantity surveyors, and CAD operators.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for project managers, site teams, clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Facilitate effective communication and coordination between various technical disciplines (e.g., architectural, structural, MEP) and other departments (e.g., project management, procurement, tendering).
- Ensure all technical deliverables align with project goals, timelines, budget, and quality standards.
II. Design & Engineering Review:
- Thoroughly review and analyze project design documents, drawings, specifications, and contract documents for accuracy, completeness, buildability, and compliance with local codes (e.g., Egyptian Building Code), international standards, and client requirements.
- Identify discrepancies, clashes, and potential issues within the design and propose effective solutions in coordination with design consultants and the project team.
- Lead the value engineering process to optimize designs for cost-effectiveness, constructability, and efficiency without compromising quality or performance.
- Oversee the preparation of shop drawings and as-built drawings, ensuring they reflect site conditions and approved designs.
III. Quantity Surveying & Cost Optimization:
- Manage and oversee the preparation of accurate Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for various project stages (tender, execution, variation orders).
- Conduct detailed quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications for pricing, procurement, and progress payments.
- Monitor and control project quantities, identify discrepancies between design and actual site requirements, and manage related variations.
- Assist the tendering and procurement teams with technical evaluations of bids and material specifications.
IV. Technical Documentation & Standards:
- Establish and maintain a robust system for technical documentation control, including drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs (Requests for Information), site instructions, and change orders.
- Oversee the preparation and submission of material submittals, technical proposals, method statements, and work procedures for client/consultant approval.
- Ensure all technical documentation is accurate, up-to-date, and readily accessible to relevant project stakeholders.
- Develop and implement standardized technical procedures and best practices for the technical office.
V. Project Support & Problem Solving:
- Provide timely technical support and solutions to site teams for construction challenges, unforeseen conditions, and design interpretations.
- Review and respond to RFIs from site, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Manage the change order process from a technical perspective, including assessing impacts on design, quantities, and schedule.
- Participate in technical meetings with clients, consultants, and subcontractors to discuss project progress, technical issues, and proposed solutions.
- Assist in the preparation of project progress reports, focusing on technical achievements and challenges.
Job Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related construction engineering discipline from a reputable university.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in the construction industry, with at least 5 years in a Senior Technical Office Engineer or similar managerial role, specifically within contracting companies.
- Proven experience in managing complex building and/or infrastructure projects (residential, commercial, mixed-use, industrial).
- Technical Proficiency:
- Essential:
- Deep understanding of construction methods, materials, and sequences for various trades.
- Expertise in quantity surveying, cost estimation, and BOQ preparation.
- Strong command of AutoCAD, Revit (or similar BIM software), and other relevant design/modeling tools.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, calculations, and reporting.
- Thorough knowledge of local building codes, regulations, and international standards (e.g., ACI, AISC, ASTM).
- Highly Desired:
- Familiarity with project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) to understand project scheduling.
- Experience with ERP systems used in construction.
