Job Summary

The Assistant Resident Engineer (ARE) Electrical for an Infrastructure Works Project is responsible for supporting the Resident Engineer in overseeing the electrical systems' design, installation, testing, and commissioning for the project.

This role involves ensuring that electrical systems, including power supply, lighting, distribution boards, and related infrastructure, are installed in compliance with the project specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

The Assistant Resident Engineer will assist in managing contractors, conducting inspections, resolving technical issues, and ensuring the timely and quality completion of electrical works.

Key Job Duties



Electrical Systems Installation & Supervision

Assist the Resident Engineer in overseeing the installation of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, and emergency systems, ensuring compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
Supervise contractors during electrical installation, ensuring that work is carried out according to the approved plans, electrical codes, and safety regulations.
Monitor electrical works to verify that the installation is progressing as per the project schedule and specifications.

Material Inspection & Quality Control

Inspect electrical materials, equipment, and components upon delivery to ensure they meet project specifications and quality standards.
Verify that all electrical installations comply with industry standards and are of high quality and durability.
Ensure the proper handling, storage, and protection of electrical components and materials on-site.

Testing & Commissioning of Electrical Systems

Assist in the testing and commissioning of electrical systems, including checking electrical circuits, power supply systems, and distribution boards.
Ensure that all systems are thoroughly tested to confirm they meet safety, performance, and functional requirements.
Prepare and maintain records of testing, including results, and coordinate with the commissioning team to address any issues.

Compliance with Electrical Standards & Regulations

Ensure all electrical works comply with local electrical codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Assist in reviewing design documents to ensure they align with industry standards and regulatory guidelines for electrical systems.
Collaborate with the HSE team to ensure that electrical work adheres to safety protocols and minimizes electrical hazards on-site.

Site Inspections & Documentation

Conduct regular site inspections to monitor the progress of electrical works and ensure compliance with the project’s electrical design and specifications.
Maintain comprehensive records of inspections, tests, and approvals related to electrical work, ensuring proper documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
Prepare daily and weekly reports summarizing electrical work progress, inspections conducted, and issues or discrepancies identified.

Coordination with Project Team & Contractors

Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and other site teams to ensure the seamless execution of electrical works and that any issues are resolved promptly.
Provide technical support to contractors, helping to resolve any electrical-related issues or challenges during installation and construction.
Participate in regular meetings with project stakeholders to discuss electrical work progress, potential challenges, and solutions.

Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution

Assist in troubleshooting electrical issues that arise during installation or testing, ensuring quick resolution to avoid delays in the project schedule.
Provide solutions to resolve any electrical design issues or unforeseen challenges that may occur during construction.
Collaborate with senior engineers to address and correct any discrepancies between design and installation.

Safety & Environmental Management

Ensure that all electrical works are carried out in a safe manner, with strict adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations.
Monitor electrical works to prevent hazards such as electrical shocks, fires, or damage to the environment.
Assist in implementing measures to protect workers from electrical hazards and ensure that appropriate safety equipment is used at all times.

Work Permit & Risk Assessments

Review and approve work permits for electrical activities, ensuring that risk assessments are conducted and appropriate safety measures are implemented before starting work.
Assist in assessing the risks associated with electrical systems and provide recommendations to mitigate any potential hazards.

Final Inspection & Handover

Participate in the final inspection of completed electrical systems, ensuring that all electrical work is up to standard and operational.
Verify that as-built documentation, including drawings and test reports, is complete and accurate before handover.
Ensure that all necessary documentation, including warranties and compliance certificates, are provided for the completed electrical systems.

Continuous Improvement & Knowledge Sharing

Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes related to electrical systems and construction.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of electrical installation processes and practices by sharing insights and recommending enhancements to future projects.
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior electrical engineers and technicians to ensure effective knowledge transfer and skills development within the team.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering with 15+ years of experience in Construction Supervision and Management, including roles as Senior Engineer or Assistant Resident Engineer.
Proven track record managing complex sewer system projects, with in-depth knowledge of relevant codes and regulations.
Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and quality in all aspects of work.
Professional Engineering (PE) license is highly desirable.
