Job Description

Role Summary: 

The Accounting Leader will be a cornerstone of our financial operations, responsible for establishing, overseeing, and continuously improving Leverage's internal accounting standards, policies, and procedures. This role will be critical in building and leading a high-performing team of junior and senior accountants and account managers. The Accounting Leader will ensure the flawless execution of accounting standards, policies, and procedures, guaranteeing the accuracy, completeness, thoroughness, and timely recording of all financial data within Leverage's operations. This individual will also manage engagement with auditors and tax advisors on compliance and regulatory matters related to the accounting function. Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership & Development: 
    • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and mentor junior and senior accountants and account managers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
    • Conduct regular performance reviews, providing constructive feedback and development plans to enhance team capabilities and align with Leverage's cultural behaviors.
    • Champion a collaborative and inclusive team environment, leveraging diverse talents and perspectives to achieve unified goals.
  • Accounting Operations & Oversight: 
    • Design, implement, and enforce robust accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure accuracy, completeness, compliance, and efficiency in internal financial recording.
    • Oversee all general ledger operations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed asset management, ensuring timely and accurate recording.
    • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-year close processes.
    • Manage the preparation of financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements) to ensure their accuracy and completeness in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
    • Engage with external auditors and tax advisors on compliance and regulatory activities related to Leverage's internal accounting function.
  • Financial Data Integrity & Reporting Preparation: 
    • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and thoroughness of all underlying financial data that feeds into Leverage's internal reports and dashboards.
    • Guarantee the timely recording of all internal financial transactions.
  • Process Improvement & Innovation: 
    • Continuously seek opportunities to streamline Leverage's internal accounting processes, leverage technology, and improve efficiency in data recording and compliance.
    • Embrace an adaptive innovation mindset, exploring new accounting methodologies and tools to enhance accuracy and thoroughness of internal financial data.
  • Cultural Alignment:

Job Requirements

Ideal Candidate Profile: Accounting Leader

We are looking for a candidate who not only possesses exceptional accounting expertise in data integrity and compliance for internal operations but also deeply resonates with and exemplifies Leverage's unique cultural DNA.

Technical Skills & Experience:

  • Proven Accounting Leadership: Extensive experience in leading and developing accounting teams, ideally within a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment, with a strong focus on internal data accuracy and compliance.
  • Accounting Expertise: Deep knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP/IFRS), financial reporting preparation, internal controls, and tax compliance. CPA or equivalent certification highly preferred.
  • Data Accuracy & Completeness: Demonstrated ability to ensure the thoroughness, accuracy, and completeness of internal financial records and transactions.
  • System Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in accounting software, ERP systems, and tools used for accurate data entry and reporting. Experience with implementing or optimizing accounting systems for internal data integrity is a plus.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Management: Proven experience in engaging with external auditors and tax advisors, managing audits, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements for internal accounting functions. Must stay updated on local accounting standards and tax regulations specific to Leverage's own operations in Egypt and other regions where Leverage will establish entities.
  • Process Improvement: Demonstrated track record of identifying and implementing process efficiencies and continuous improvement initiatives within accounting functions, specifically related to internal data recording and compliance.
  • Global Acumen: Experience or strong understanding of accounting practices, tax regulations, and compliance requirements in emerging markets, particularly Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East, is highly advantageous.

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • CPA or equivalent professional accounting designation is preferable.

Experience Level:

  • Minimum of 6-10 years of progressive experience in accounting roles, with at least 1-2 years in a leadership or managerial capacity, with a strong emphasis on internal data integrity, process adherence, and compliance.
