Job Summary
The Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing the company’s fleet operations, ensuring the efficient, safe, and cost-effective management of vehicles used for transporting bulk cargo and containers. This role involves coordinating vehicle maintenance, ensuring compliance with regulations, optimizing routes, and managing drivers to support stevedoring and warehousing operations. The Fleet Manager will work closely with other departments to ensure timely and reliable transportation services.
Key Responsibilities
- Fleet Management: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of a diverse fleet of vehicles, including trucks and trailers
- Driver Supervision: Manage and train drivers, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, company policies, and transportation regulations.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all vehicles and drivers comply with local, state, and federal transportation regulations, including permits, licenses, and safety standards.
- Route Optimization: Plan and optimize transportation routes to maximize efficiency, reduce fuel consumption, and ensure timely deliveries.
- Maintenance Scheduling: Coordinate regular maintenance and inspections of vehicles to minimize downtime and ensure operational readiness.
- Cost Management: Monitor and control fleet-related expenses, including fuel, maintenance, and repairs, while identifying opportunities for cost savings.
- Safety Programs: Implement and enforce safety programs to reduce accidents and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards.
- Coordination with Operations: Collaborate with stevedoring and warehousing teams to align transportation schedules with loading/unloading and storage operations.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Track fleet performance metrics (e.g., fuel efficiency, delivery times) and provide regular reports to senior management.
- Emergency Response: Develop and implement contingency plans for unexpected issues, such as vehicle breakdowns or delays in cargo delivery.
Job Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in fleet management, preferably in the transportation of bulk cargo or containers.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and safety standards.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in fleet management software and GPS tracking systems.
- Analytical skills for route optimization and cost management.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for coordinating with drivers, vendors, and other departments.
