Job Description

Kano State government wish to hire Egyptian expatriate with a minimum of 5 years of experience to work in Nigeria.

The Chemical Engineer will be responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and ensuring the chemical and microbiological quality of treated water supplied to Kano State residents. The role involves overseeing water treatment processes, conducting laboratory analyses, ensuring regulatory compliance, and advising on process optimization and public health safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise chemical dosing and treatment processes in water treatment plants.
  • Monitor water quality parameters (pH, turbidity, chlorine residual, heavy metals, etc.).
  • Conduct regular water sampling and analysis at source, treatment points, and distribution networks.
  • Ensure that treated water complies with national (NAFDAC, SON) and international (WHO) drinking water standards.
  • Investigate water quality complaints and incidents; recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain detailed records of water quality data, lab results, and incident reports.
  • Collaborate with plant operators and maintenance teams to optimize treatment efficiency.
  • Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly water quality reports.
  • Participate in capacity-building initiatives and staff training on water treatment protocols.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and environmental agencies during inspections or audits.
  • Support procurement processes by recommending appropriate water treatment chemicals and lab equipment.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: B.Sc. or B.Eng. in Chemical Engineering (minimum); M.Sc. in Water Treatment, Process Engineering, or Environmental Engineering is an advantage.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years in water treatment, preferably in a public utility or municipal service.

Technical Competencies:

  • Proficient in chemical dosing systems, laboratory analysis techniques, and water quality monitoring.
  • In-depth knowledge of international water standards 
  • Strong command of lab equipment and testing procedures (turbidimeters, spectrophotometers, pH meters, etc.).
  • Familiar with process optimization tools and treatment plant automation.
