About the Role
HYS Games is looking for a Unity Technical Artist to bridge the gap between art and engineering on our upcoming hero-driven combat racing project. You will ensure our heroes, vehicles, and environments look stunning in Unity HDRP while maintaining high performance for fast-paced multiplayer gameplay. This role requires both technical expertise and artistic sensitivity — enabling the team to push visual quality while keeping everything game-ready.
Responsibilities
- Technical Art & Pipeline
- Develop and maintain efficient pipelines for characters, vehicles, and environments.
- Optimize assets (textures, shaders, rigs, LODs, lighting) for real-time performance.
- Troubleshoot asset integration issues and provide technical solutions to the art team.
- Animation Systems
- Animate characters and objects kinematically (IK & FK) and dynamically as required.
- Use skeleton masks to blend animations and create flexible state-driven motion.
- Support artists in implementing expressive, responsive animation setups.
- Simulation & Prototyping
- Simulate and build playable mockup scenes to test features before full integration.
- Create multiplayer test setups for combat, racing, and chasing mechanics.
- Provide a technical playground for developers and artists to iterate quickly.
- Shaders & VFX
- Create custom shaders and effects in Unity HDRP (Shader Graph, VFX Graph, particles).
- Support dynamic effects for vehicles, weapons, and combat (e.g., sparks, trails, boosts).
- Ensure effects match the project’s semi-realistic, stylized art direction.
- Collaboration
- Work closely with 3D artists, designers, and programmers to ensure smooth asset integration.
- Partner with the Art Director to maintain stylistic consistency and technical feasibility.
- Share knowledge, tools, and best practices with the wider team.
Job Requirements
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Technical Artist in Unity (HDRP experience highly preferred).
- Strong knowledge of real-time rendering, shaders, lighting, and optimization.
- Proficiency in Unity, C#, and common DCC tools (Maya/Blender, Substance).
- Experience with animation systems (IK, FK, skeleton masks, blending).
- Ability to build mockup scenes for prototyping gameplay and multiplayer features.
- Excellent problem-solving and cross-discipline communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with competitive multiplayer or racing games.
- Familiarity with Unity’s animation controller workflows and Mecanim.
- Background in VFX or rigging support.
- Passion for pushing visual fidelity while maintaining performance.
