Job Description
HYS Games is looking for a versatile 3D Character Artist with strong rigging and animation skills to bring our roster of heroes to life. In our upcoming hero-driven combat racing project, each character is paired with a unique vehicle — and while the primary focus is on characters, the role also involves contributing to vehicle modeling. We want someone who can make our heroes feel alive, expressive, and memorable, both in and out of their rides.
Responsibilities
- Character Modeling
- Create stylized yet semi-realistic hero models aligned with the project’s art direction.
- Ensure clean, game-ready topology optimized for real-time performance in Unity HDRP.
- Translate concept art into polished 3D assets.
- Vehicle Modeling
- Collaborate on designing and modeling distinctive vehicles that reflect each hero’s identity.
- Optimize vehicles for detail and performance balance.
- Rigging & Skinning
- Build versatile rigs, including facial rigs for expressive hero performances.
- Skin meshes with attention to deformation quality during intense gameplay and cinematics.
- Animation
- Produce dynamic, personality-driven character animations (idles, emotes, combat reactions, hero interactions).
- Demonstrate strong ability in expressive body and facial animation.
- Ensure animations integrate seamlessly in a fast-paced multiplayer environment.
- Collaboration
- Work closely with technical artists and Unity developers for smooth integration.
- Partner with the Art Director to maintain stylistic and tonal consistency across heroes and vehicles.
Job Requirements
Requirements
- Strong portfolio demonstrating:
- Character modeling for games (stylized/semi-realistic).
- Character rigging, including facial rigs.
- Character animation, showcasing expressive performance and physicality.
- Proficiency in industry-standard tools (Maya/Blender, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Unity).
- Solid understanding of anatomy, motion, and deformation for real-time characters.
- Experience optimizing assets for real-time (polycount, textures, LODs).
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to paint/texture characters to completion (from sculpt to final textured model).
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Unity’s animation workflows (Mecanim, animation controllers).
- Passion for racing, action, or hero-based games.
