Job Description
The Center of Imaging and Microscopy (CIM) is a premier facility supporting interdisciplinary research in physics, materials science, nanotechnology, and life sciences. The centerpiece of the facility is a high-resolution Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), complemented by other state-of-the-art imaging platforms. CIM provides essential technical expertise, training, and support to researchers, ensuring high-quality outcomes and innovation.
Position Summary:
Zewail City of Science, Technology and Innovation is seeking a highly qualified Technical Manager to lead the operations of the CIM. The Technical Manager will oversee the operation, service, and maintenance of advanced microscopy systems—particularly TEM—while supporting researchers and students through training, consultation, and project guidance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced microscopy equipment, with emphasis on TEM system.
- Provide technical training and consultation to users, assisting in experiment design and imaging workflows.
- Manage preventive maintenance, calibration, and vendor liaison for service contracts.
- Oversee laboratory safety, compliance, and documentation (SOPs, logs, technical reports).
- Support faculty and researchers in high-level imaging projects and proposals.
- Contribute to strategic planning and development of the center, including evaluation of new technologies.
- Supervise and train technical staff when required.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Electrical, Electronics, or Communication Engineering.
- Master’s degree (M.Sc.) in Physics or related field strongly preferred.
- Extensive factory training and hands-on expertise with TEM system.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in operation, service, and maintenance of electron microscopy instruments.
- Demonstrated ability to train and mentor researchers in microscopy techniques.
- Experience in leading technical teams, managing facility operations, and working with international stakeholders/vendors is an asset.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
