Job Description
Development of the WHO lead poisoning prevention technical package
Provide strategic advice to RTSL in our partnership with WHO, including
Assisting in the identification of experts
Assisting in the navigation of WHO systems at Headquarters, Regional Office and Country Level
Building coherence and complementarity with WHO's and RTSL work on NCDs, prevention of lead poisoning and relevant aspects of environmental health and poison centre services
Participating in regular monthly and key partner meetings, including the kick-off partners meeting for the Bloomberg Lead Poisoning Initiative in December 2025
Provide technical and policy advice on the prevention of lead exposure, including
Ground-truthing guidance documents at the country level to improve utility.
Facilitation of key meetings with experts, country representatives, etc.
Review of key documents and technical products
Expert technical consultation on lead poisoning prevention activities in Nigeria: Provide expert input into strategy, government documents, RTSL technical documents etc., including travel to Nigeria (~2 times) to provide on-site support.
Policy and Advocacy Support: Provide strategic input on policy briefs, advocacy materials, and donor communications related to lead poisoning prevention in Nigeria or other countries, if relevant
Capacity Building Support: Plan and support technical workshops and webinars for government, partners, and key stakeholders in Nigeria or other implementing countries, focused on best practice interventions for lead poisoning prevention.
This may include advising on agendas, content development, speaker selection, and alignment with in-country strategic objectives.
Contract Management
The Independent Contractor will submit all deliverables to the Director, Healthy Foods and Environment, who will manage this contract and monitor progress towards deliverables.
Qualifications
Education
Master's degree in public health, environmental science, public policy or international development.
Experience
15+ years of relevant global health, environmental science or development experience
At least five years of working experience in lead poisoning prevention in global health
Experience working in low- and middle-income countries
Experience developing technical materials
Experience working with national governments
Skills & Abilities
Ability to communicate technical knowledge and expertise in both policy and operational environments
Technical support and guidance capabilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Other
Able to provide consulting services remotely and travel for in-person meetings to support the project as needed and agreed upon
