Do you enjoy using science to drive change in the world?Would you like to be part of the launch team for the Lancet’s new online-only gold open access journal.About Our TeamThe Lancet Regional Health - Eastern Mediterranean will be the latest addition to The Lancet’s suite of open access general medical journals focusing on publishing high quality, evidence-based research focused on six regions of the world. The team will handle high quality research, reviews, and commentaries with the goal to improve health outcomes by advancing the research agenda, advocating for equal access to quality healthcare for all, and fostering the advancement of clinical practice and health policy. They will build solid relationships with research communities to ensure we offer, exciting, interesting and thought-provoking content.About The RoleAs an in-house Senior Editor, you will oversee the creation and publication of original material for our online journal. You will take ownership of overseeing submissions and performing quality peer review to ensure we publish high-quality content. You will build global relationships with experts in the community to disseminate and discuss practice-changing results from the field.At the Lancet we are deeply committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment. As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the diversity of our editorial team, we encourage applications from individuals who bring unique skills, backgrounds, and perspectives to the role.ResponsibilitiesManaging peer review of high-quality research papers, and commissioning authors to ensure the successful production of new and engaging articlesDeveloping and maintaining relationships with the regional health community to attract high-quality research for the journalAttending conferences and events to represent the journal, keeping up to date with current developments in regional health and identifying potential topics of interestWriting editorials and other content for the journal as required.Helping develop new initiatives for future development of the journalRequirementsAdvanced degree in a relevant medical or scientific discipline (e.g., MD, PhD)Editorial experience at a senior level, preferably within academic publishing, journal production, and of running an editorial teamBe able to demonstrate thorough knowledge of biological and medical sciences, and broader social issues pertaining to regional healthAbility to engage and influence diverse stakeholders, including medical professionals, researchers, internal teams, and media representatives.Proven ability to manage editorial workflows and meet publication deadlinesExcellent command of the English language and the ability to write in an engaging and interesting mannerProficient with IT systems including MS OfficeWork for youWe promote a healthy work-life balance, well-being initiatives, parental leave, and study leave.
