Job Description
Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation and Budgeting:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, and other expenses.
- Develop budgets and monitor project expenditures throughout the construction process.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and provide recommendations to optimize project costs.
Tendering and Procurement:
- Manage the tendering process, including preparing tender documents and evaluating bids from contractors and suppliers.
- Negotiate contracts and agreements with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in procurement activities.
Contract Administration:
- Administer construction contracts and manage contractual relationships with stakeholders.
- Prepare and review contract documents, including variations and change orders.
- Monitor contract performance and resolve disputes or claims as they arise.
Quantity Surveying:
- Take off quantities from architectural and engineering drawings.
- Measure and value work done on site, including preparing interim valuations and final accounts.
- Assess and manage variations to contract scope and associated costs.
Cost Control and Reporting:
- Monitor project costs against budgets and forecasts.
- Prepare regular cost reports and financial forecasts for management and clients.
- Analyze cost data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Risk Management:
- Identify potential risks and opportunities related to cost and contracts.
- Develop risk management strategies and contingency plans to mitigate risks.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure effective cost management and contract administration.
- Communicate effectively with clients, providing updates on cost status, variations, and financial implications.
Job Requirements
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. A postgraduate qualification may be advantageous.
- Experience: Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or in a related role within the construction industry.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of construction contracts, cost management principles, and quantity surveying techniques.
- Analytical Skills: Excellent numerical and analytical abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical information clearly and concisely.
- Software Skills: Proficiency in quantity surveying software and tools (e.g., CostX, Bluebeam, BIM).
