Job Description

The Australian Embassy in Cairo is looking to recruit an organised, energetic and pro-active individual to work as Public Diplomacy Officer within the Policy Section of the Embassy. 

 

The Public Affairs Officer is responsible for the development and implementation of the Embassy’s public diplomacy programs. The officer is responsible for organising public diplomacy events and managing the Embassy’s website and social media platforms. The officer is also responsible for implementation and assessment of Australia’s Direct Aid Program.

Gross monthly salary: EGP 38,077.60 + bonus + benefits

Functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Plan, develop and implement the Embassy’s public diplomacy strategy to promote positive images of Australia and Australia’s foreign policy and trade objectives.
  • Plan and deliver public diplomacy events and functions including managing the delivery of multiple concurrent events, coordinating stakeholders, speakers and other logistical arrangements such as guest lists, catering, entertainment and technical support.
  • Monitor and produce content for the Embassy’s social media platforms (currently X, Facebook and Instagram), including through video production and editing.
  • Manage the Embassy’s website.
  • Manage and monitor post’s public diplomacy and alumni engagement budgets in accordance with departmental financial guidelines.
  • Develop, maintain and strengthen relationships, negotiate and liaise across a broad range of stakeholders including senior cultural and commercial stakeholders to support public diplomacy objectives.
  • Prepare media releases, write speeches, manage and coordinate appropriate media relations and activities.
  • Proactively grow and strengthen engagement strategies with the alumni community in Egypt by organising events and functions.
  • Administrate the Embassy’s Direct Aid Program, including managing grant rounds, liaising with stakeholders, project vetting, monitoring and acquittals, administrating the DFAT aid management applications and managing publicity.
  • Act as the backup Ambassador's personal assistant when required, including answering phone calls and arranging meetings.
  • Perform other duties as required, including covering roles in the Political and Economic Team.

Job Requirements

Qualifications/Experience

Mandatory

  • Strong organisation and time management skills. Ability to multi-task and reprioritise in response to changing requirements.
  • Well-developed oral and written English and Arabic communication skills including an ability to communicate with flair and accuracy on social media platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks, think strategically, apply judgement and innovation to achieve results.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop a broad network of relevant contacts.
  • Ability to operate effectively within a team and across teams.
  • Demonstrated competency in the use of Microsoft Office suite.

Desirable 

  • Previous experience working in media or public affairs, or qualifications in these fields.
  • Experience working with movie editing software and creating content for social media.
  • Event management experience.
