Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Legal Counsel to join our contracting and construction firm. The ideal candidate will have 10–20 years of legal experience, with deep expertise in construction law, contract negotiation, dispute resolution, and regulatory compliance. This role requires sound judgment, a strong business mindset, and the ability to navigate complex legal and commercial challenges within the construction and infrastructure sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex construction contracts, including EPC, FIDIC, subcontractor agreements, NDAs, and JV agreements.
- Provide legal advice on project development, tendering, procurement, and contract execution.
- Advise senior management on legal risks, rights, obligations, and strategy related to ongoing and prospective projects.
- Manage claims and disputes, including arbitration and litigation, in coordination with external counsel.
- Ensure compliance with local, regional, and international construction laws, labor laws, and industry-specific regulations.
- Provide guidance on corporate governance, insurance, environmental and safety regulations.
- Develop and implement internal legal policies, procedures, and contract management systems.
- Conduct legal due diligence for partnerships, acquisitions, or new market entries.
- Represent the company in legal and regulatory proceedings as necessary.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) from a recognized university; Master of Laws (LL.M) or specialization in Construction Law preferred.
- Licensed to practice law in [insert relevant jurisdiction].
- 10–20 years of post-qualification experience, with at least 5 years in a senior legal role in the construction or infrastructure industry.
- In-depth knowledge of construction contract frameworks (especially FIDIC, JCT, or NEC).
- Strong experience in managing disputes, claims, and arbitration processes.
- Exceptional negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
