Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Automation Engineer to join our SCCT expansion project execution team

REPORTING:

Position reports to: Automation Manager

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Build automation solutions and services based on business and operational requirements, following automation industry best practices, and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Finalize Bill of Materials (BOM) for hardware and software orders, where applicable.
  • Contribute to technical project management, including solution design reviews, execution plans, scope, commercials, and contractual deliverables involving multiple business units and suppliers.
  • Support project deployment activities, such as site readiness report preparation and technical requirements documentation for Industrial Infrastructure (Wireless, Network, Compute, and Storage).
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities and new use-cases within existing facilities, leveraging your expertise in automation.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams and external parties (integrators and system suppliers) to ensure seamless automation solution integration and successful project completion within targets.
  • Support suppliers and vendors in developing and providing relevant documentation for reviews and approvals.
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to monitor system performance, manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and
    coordinate with external suppliers to correct deviations and meet contractual deliverables.
  • Support terminals in implementing pre-requisites both on-site and remotely.
  • Develop terminal-specific documentation for post go-live support and maintenance.
  • Maintain Terminal infrastructure, including local networks, servers, and workstations, in accordance with APM Terminals policies, standards, and security rules.
  • Ensure Terminal infrastructure supports the implementation and deployment of each APM Terminals global application by proactively complying with project-specific instructions and guidelines.
  • Manage relationships with local vendors for hardware and software, in accordance with APM Terminals IS policy.
  • Reinforce APM Terminals group culture, values, and reputation, ensuring compliance with APMT policies.
  • Foster strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Drive cost reductions through data insights and automation within the function.
  • Ensure the development of the project pipeline and achievement of milestones.
  • Ensure adherence to Health & Safety, proactively raising potential H&S issues, and promoting safety awareness.
  • Ensure the reliability of systems and subsystems within a complex and fast-changing environment.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a similar field.
  • 5+ years of experience in the industrial automation industry, with at least 2 years of experience in designing processes to ensure product and solution quality standards for ports and container terminals.
  • Expertise in industrial process mapping, automation requirements for complex installations, automated equipment, Execution Systems, and Equipment Control Systems.
  • Proficiency in industrial automation and control, including PLC programming and exposure to SCADA.
  • Experience in IPv4 networking, wireless technology, enabling solutions like RFID, DGPS, Weighing Machines preferred.
  • Familiarity with systems such as Siemens PLCs, CMS/HMI (Scada, WinCC, Citect, and automation studio HMI designer),
    and drives (Siemens, Drive Monitor, Simotion).
  • Design interfaces between the different layers above
  • Understanding of platforms, networking, communication protocols (TCP/IP, Profibus, ASI, CAN-Bus, Profinet, Drive-Cliq).
  • Expertise in modern logistics processes, automation technology instrumentation and controls, operation data acquisition and safety systems, and automation integration and control/execution systems.
  • Experience with layout design platforms like AutoCAD.
  • Solid understanding of operational/functional KPIs, equipment performance in industrial environments.
  • Proficiency in maintaining automation equipment with Project management experience.
  • Strong computer programming and software development understanding.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and conduct complex system tests.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail with Creative thinking and strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional cooperation capabilities, with a positive, result-oriented attitude. 
  • English language proficiency preferred.
  • Proficiency in agile methodologies (SCRUM/KANBAN).
  • Desire to identify solutions improvements, proactively work on process and performance, act on stakeholder feedback.
  • Ability to provide direction, support, and guidance for others, contribution to product development.
  • Understanding of automation industry trends and relevant innovations in solution delivery methods.
  • Experience with Information Security management and compliance of information systems.
