Job Description

What we are looking for

Are you detail-oriented, organized, and eager to grow in a dynamic accounting environment? Our client, a leading Belgian tax advisory firm specializing in expatriate taxation and international mobility, is looking for a motivated Assistant-Accountant to support our growing team.

What you will be doing

You will be working remotely from your current location. Your day begins with reviewing your task list and checking emails for any updates or requests from your manager in Belgium. You’ll typically start by processing purchase and sales invoices, logging them accurately into our accounting system.

Mid-morning, you may handle bank and credit card transactions—ensuring statements (including from providers like American Express or Revolut) are recorded and reconciled. You’ll review outstanding items on accounts payable and receivable lists, flagging anything that needs follow-up.

Throughout the day, you stay in touch with your manager via email, Teams, or scheduled check-ins, to align on priorities, clarify any client-specific issues, or get feedback on open files. You might also help draft client emails or organize internal documentation.

Afternoons could involve reconciling salary documentation, processing depreciation schedules, or assisting with month-end closing tasks. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Handling and recording purchase/sales invoices
  • Handling and recording bank transaction statements
  • Processing credit card statements (e.g. Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Revolut)
  • Reconciling payments and bank account balances
  • Reviewing and reconciling Belgian payroll and salary-related documents
  • Recording and managing asset depreciations
  • Monitoring and following up on accounts payable and receivable
  • Drafting and organizing email correspondence for clients and internal use
  • Maintaining regular communication with the responsible file manager
  • Supporting various administrative and accounting tasks as required

Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in a comparable accounting position is a plus
  • Solid understanding of (Local GAAP) accounting standards and procedures, with a basic understanding of EU VAT regulations and corporate taxation principles
  • Prior experience at a Big Four firm in Europe or the Middle East is a significant advantage
  • Excellent knowledge of English, both written and spoken
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to Belgian accounting software, even if interfaces are not always available in English
  • Capable of working independently and remotely with a high degree of self-motivation and discipline
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy
