Job Description
Principal Functions:
- Independently handle and solve critical/major faults in the transport network.
- Manage all service assurance, service fulfillment and change management activities for transport network.
- Ensures network and its elements perform with consistency, reliability, and efficiency in compliance with the engineering standards, objectives, priorities, guidelines, and procedures.
- Provides professional guidance and support to peers and NOC Engineers in carrying out the assigned functions.
- Develop operational, provisioning and change management processes.
- Should be fully familiar and updated with transport network layering structures, OTN standards and testing protocols.
- Ensure changes in network is deployed with zero/minimum impact on the live services.
- Develop L1 staff to handle the network issues independently.
- Assign shift duties for the NOC if required.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Operations
- Perform and coordinate the assigned day-to-day roles/responsibilities in compliance to standards and practices relating to provisioning, testing & commissioning operations, and maintenance of respective network functionality.
- Monitor the operational events and reviews statistics on availability, health, resources, and performance of the Transport Network Operations.
- Independently handle resolution of complex issues/ concerns and resolves faults.
- Liaise on day-to-day basis with peer teams, service desks, customer care cases, etc. to complete routine operations tasks – e.g. provisioning, testing, troubleshooting, etc.
- Handle and follow up fault resolution of complex issues, persistent/unresolved complaints.
- Oversee and conduct proper project documentation and maintenance of logs, progress reports etc. of job-related activities as applicable.
- Review the network configuration and align with any request for change.
- Maintenance
- Ensure routine maintenance of the Transport Network Systems in accordance with the standards and procedures as per the Manufacturer’s Manuals.
- Implement pro-active measures like periodic network health check, alarm logs, historical PM data analysis.
- Coordinate and implement the configuration and upgrade of Network & Servers to match the new releases from Manufacturers/Suppliers.
- Implement the prescribed performance monitoring procedures for the assigned Network Systems.
- Oversee, guide, and participate as required in the trouble shooting routines.
- Coordinate and carry out 2nd level problem resolution when referred from L1, on-call assignments, and emergency response system in respect of the assigned Network Systems
- Coordinates for Level-3 support depending on the nature of the issue/fault.
- To prepare detailed incidents reports whether required by customer or management.
- Implement the installation of software patches and bug fixes in accordance with the procedures and guidelines.
- Develop proactive process for the Transport network so that customer SLAs are achieved.
- Update Network Design Documents and as built drawings.
- Maintain the network database with zero errors.
Job Requirements
Knowledge, Experience & Competencies
- Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications/Electronics/IT or relevant field
- Minimum 7 years experience in DWDM Network operation and maintenance
Related Professional Training, Certification or Membership:
- Mandatory
- Advanced level O&M training on Transport Network Technologies (DWDM/OTN/ASON) and Network Management Systems
- Strong communication and PC skills
- Familiarity to NOC automation tools
- Ready to work in shifts and on call outs
- Preferred
- Optical Networks Certification/IP Networks Basic Knowledge
