SummaryThis is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Direct Hire Authority, 5 U.S.C. 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.This announcement is for Temporary deployment tours which vary in length depending on location. Tour lengths may be 6 months, 9 months or 1 year being the most often used.Learn more about this agencyHelpDutiesServes as Technical Specialist for architectural systems and feature aspects of civil and military construction projects under the jurisdiction of the District.Providing technical expertise for the full variety of facilities and structures constructed by the District, ranging to major multipurpose hydroelectric projects, hospitals, special large-size tactical equipment shops (16,000 to 35,000 square feet).Reviews work in progress and responds to referrals and requests for assistance to identify, coordinate develop, and/or advise on solutions to various types of construction problems in area of expertise.Apply broad, knowledge and experience in adapting or extending solutions to similar problems/situations, defining obscure problems, and in making recommendations to correct or eliminate the problem(s).Initiates and designs modifications, including technical descriptions not involving major revisions of large scope to plans and specifications.Assists field offices in assuring user satisfaction, minimizing interruption, and generate feedback for incorporation into ongoing designs and incremental expansion.HelpRequirementsConditions of EmploymentAppointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.SECURITY CLEARANCE - This position has been designated as non-critical sensitive as defined in DOD 5200.2-R. Essential Position Agreement, DD Form 2365, must be completed prior to deployment.IMMUNIZATION SCREENING - This position requires immunization with the complete Anthrax vaccination series and subsequent annual boosters.MEDICAL EXAMINATION - This position requires you to satisfactorily complete a medical examination for deployment.PASSPORT and VISA - This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain an official US passport and VISA as applicable based on duty location.WORK SCHEDULE - This position may entail extended work shifts that last 12-16 hours a day. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.Additional Information About Transcripts Is In This Document.Basic Requirement for Architect: Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in architecture or in a related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.OR Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by at least one of the following: (1) Related Curriculum - Degree in architectural engineering provided the completed course work in architectural engineering provided knowledge, skills, and abilities substantially equivalent to those provided in the courses specified in statement A above, or (2) Experience: 1 year of experience in an architect's office or in architectural work for each year short of graduation from a program of study in architecture. In the absence of any college courses, 5 years of such experience is required. This experience must have demonstrated that you have acquired a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional architecture.In Addition To Meeting The Basic Requirement Above, To Qualify For This Position You Must Also Meet The Qualification Requirements Listed Below:Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing architectural designs; coordinating team input of the associated engineering disciplines for assigned projects; performing technical reviews of architectural designs; and resolving architectural design related problems arising during construction. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).EducationOnly degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
