So, if you’re looking to do big work in a small-team environment, Midrex is just the place for you.QualificationsThe Midrex Construction Manager (CM) role typically serves as a Technical Field Advisor to the client and its contractors by providing expertise, technical advice and support throughout the construction and commissioning phases of the Midrex DRI plant. He is also responsible for ensuring Midrex equipment and materials are installed per the engineering specifications and design. Depending on the contract structure (EP+advisory services or EPC), the Midrex CM may also serve in a traditional construction manager capacity with responsibility for subcontractor management and performance. He is typically the senior Midrex representative on a project site and will provide direct leadership and guidance to other site based Midrex teammates including field engineering, materials manager, operations personnel, etc. The Construction Manager is a critical position within Midrex and performs a significant role throughout the execution of large scale industrial Direct Reduction Iron (DRI) plant projects valued in excess of $100 million.Supervisory Responsibilities: Serves as the senior leader on the Midrex project team. May have one or more direct reports as well as other matrixed resources throughout project execution Duties/Responsibilities: Responsible for and oversees all Midrex site activities while optimizing work in accordance with the project schedule. Responsible for the health and safety of Midrex site-based teammates. Ensures all teammates receive site orientation and safety training. Ensures that a robust incident response plan is developed and posted for all teammates. Develops strong rapport and trusting relationship with the client. Demonstrates value added service provided by Midrex. Provides technical expertise and support to construction partners and/or the Clients contractor(s) during the planning, scheduling and construction of the plant. Reviews the project schedule and helps ensure all activities are sequenced in a way to best support an optimized construction schedule. Ensures installation of all Midrex supplied equipment and materials in accordance with the design and specification requirements. Also ensures that Field Advisory Notes are created and submitted to the client in a timely manner when errors are discovered. Coordinates timing and provides supervision for all vendor field service support. Resolves and/or facilitates resolution to all contractor-initiated Requests for Information (RFIs). Issues Field Change Requests to Midrex engineering as required. Reviews all Client/Client contractor claims and back charge notices to determine if they are valid and reasonable. Signs off on approved claims and rejects inappropriate claims. Attends and/or sends a designee to all construction and safety related meetings at the site. Monitors and reports on the progress of all construction activities. Either directly or through a designated HSE representative, reports on all Midrex safety incidents or near misses that occur at the site. Ensures as-built drawings are submitted by the Client/Client contractor as necessary. Ensures lessons learned uncovered throughout a project are captured and shared in the company database. Assists with the development of and ensures the adherence to all Midrex construction related processes and procedures. Provides input into proposal efforts and estimates for new plant projects. Skills/Abilities: Required: Minimum of 12+ years of domestic and international construction management or technical advisory experience in an industrial construction environment. Proven leadership experience. Capable of leading direct reports, matrixed personnel, and subcontracted resources. Exceptional communication, organizational skills and attention to details. Self-Driven and Highly Dependable. Committed to safety and quality. Ability to interface with all levels of the project team, Midrex senior management, clients, vendors, construction partners, etc. Ability to handle and manage multiple ongoing tasks in a fast-paced, stress filled, and deadline driven environment. Must be a critical thinker with a focus on solving and overcoming challenges. Must be able and willing to work long hours and weekly schedules that fluctuate based on the demands of the project. Must be knowledgeable with reading and executing critical path project schedules Proficiency with common computer applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Adobe, etc.). Must be able to speak, read and write in English. Preferred: 15+ years of industrial construction experience within the iron or steel industry. Certified Construction Manager (CCM) designation through CMAA or Project Management Profession (PMP) certification through PMI. OSHA 30 or greater safety training Previous international construction experience preferred Foreign language capabilities a plus. Education and Experience: Associates Degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Management or Computer Aided Design (CAD). OSHA 10 Construction certified Travel Requirements: Position requires significant travel in excess of 90%. Ability to travel and/or reside at project locations for both short term (<12 months) and long term (>12 months) assignments at international and domestic locations. Physical Requirements: Role requires someone whom can be on their feet for prolonged periods throughout the day while traversing the project site and repeatedly climbing ladders/stairs and other large structures. Person must be capable and is expected to wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as is required for the task. PPE may include hard hats, safety boots, gloves, fireproof clothing, climbing harness, respirator, etc. Person should be capable of lifting up to 50lbs.
