Job Description
The Kano State Government of Nigeria, West Africa is in the process of building new Water Supply Plants along with the rehabilitation of existing ones. This process will cover general improvement of the water supply infrastructure, maintenance of high capacity Generators, maintenance of Raw Water and High Lift Pumps as well as the maintenance of other electro-mechanical equipment. The overall objective of the entire program is to rejuvenate and enhance the water supply infrastructure and the process of portable water supply to the Urban and Rural Areas of Kano State.
Towards meeting this cardinal objective, the Kano State Government is desirous of obtaining the services of qualified and experienced professionals to be employed to work in Kano State, Nigeria to participate in the planned portable water supply program. Consequently, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria hereby, on behalf of the Kano State Government, invites applications from interested and qualified professionals
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer to support the planning, execution, supervision, and maintenance of mechanical systems essential to the water supply infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess in-depth knowledge of water treatment systems, pumping technologies, and electro-mechanical maintenance, and will play a critical role in ensuring the success of this flagship program.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems at new and rehabilitated water treatment plants.
- Conduct condition assessments and provide technical recommendations for the maintenance and rehabilitation of existing mechanical components (e.g., raw water pumps, high-lift pumps, generators).
- Supervise and manage the routine and preventive maintenance of all mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment.
- Assist in the procurement process by preparing specifications for mechanical equipment and reviewing vendor proposals.
- Collaborate with electrical, civil, and environmental engineers on multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Ensure all mechanical engineering works comply with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
- Prepare technical reports, project updates, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide on-site technical support during construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience, preferably in water infrastructure, public utilities, or similar projects.
- Proven expertise in pumps, generators, piping systems, and water treatment plant equipment.
- Membership in a recognized engineering professional body (e.g., COREN) is desirable.
- Strong project management and technical documentation skills.
- Proficiency with engineering design and analysis software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.).
- Willingness to relocate to or travel within Kano State as needed.
