Job Description

As a Cargo Surveyor, you play a vital role in evaluating and inspecting various types of
cargo carried by ships. Your primary responsibility is to assess cargo conditions, verify
compliance with regulations, and provide accurate reports. Here are the key aspects of
your role:

1. Cargo Inspection:
○ Conduct thorough inspections of cargo before loading and after
unloading.
○ Examine packaging, securing methods, and overall condition.
○ Ensure compliance with safety standards and legal requirements.

2. Damage Assessment:
○ Investigate cargo damage claims.
○ Determine the cause and extent of damage.
○ Collaborate with insurers, shippers, and receivers to resolve claims.

3. Stowage and Loading:
○ Evaluate proper stowage plans for different types of cargo.
○ Monitor loading procedures to prevent damage during transit.
○ Verify weight distribution and stability.

4. Documentation and Reporting:
○ Prepare detailed reports on cargo inspections.
○ Document findings related to damage, shortages, or discrepancies.
○ Maintain accurate records for legal and insurance purposes.

5. Risk Mitigation:
○ Identify potential risks during cargo handling.
○ Recommend preventive measures to minimize losses.

Job Requirements

To excel in this role, you should possess the following qualifications and skills:

● Certifications: Validates your knowledge in marine surveying, including vessel
inspections, safety standards, and regulatory compliance ex..(ISO 9001, Cargo
surveyor CMS etc..)

● Maritime Knowledge: Understanding of cargo handling, stowage, and shipping
practices with minimum 5+ years experience.

● Attention to Detail: Thoroughness in inspecting cargo and documenting findings.

● Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders.

● Legal Awareness: Familiarity with relevant international and local regulations.
