Job Description
Role title: Retinal Screener Reporting to the Service Line Lead/ Manager, the Retinal Screener is responsible to capture safe and high-quality eye images using fundus digital camera and communicate it to the Retinal Grader and/or Ophthalmologist when images needs urgent referral. Works collaboratively as an active member of the clinical team to provide patient and family-centered care.Key Decisions the role makes and the extent of the impact of the decision:Differentiate between normal and abnormal or urgent pathology and choose the facility’s referral pathway.Location of role: ICLDC – Madinat ZayedOrganizational Culture & Compliance:Adheres to the division's policies, procedures and standards while ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory bodies.Contributes towards an innovative culture of continuous improvement for enhancing operational efficiency and effectiveness.Participates in meetings and maintains professionalism and confidentiality as per the organization's standard code of conduct.Completes personal performance evaluation cycle in a timely manner.Responsibilities: Independently priorities and manage his/her own clinical caseload and area.Use the screening service database to enable to manage the screening clinic and to facilitate quality control of image taking and documentation.Participates in retinal screening ensuring not to grade the same patients images.Making sure all patients whose retinal image has been taken or screened are graded by the Retinal Graders.Maintain a safe and clean working environment within the area in accordance to the Infection Control Policies and Procedures.Liaise with ophthalmologist and/or primary physician if and when neededFollow all departmental protocols in all dealings with colleagues and service users contributing and implementing changes when required.Ensures adequate consumables available in the working area.Liaises with the team to ensure patient is followed up in the correct time-frame, and according to the clinical need.Maintains a higher level of knowledge and expertise in retinal screening.Provides assistance to other primary retinal graders as needed.Education: Maintains up-to-date retinal imaging and grading skills and knowledge in addition prioritizing a diverse and demanding workload on a day-to-day basis.Maintains an appropriate level of continuous professional development through inter-disciplinary training, online courses including monthly ITAT examination.Actively seek new knowledge and information to ensure ongoing professional development and competency to practice.Communication:Communicates effectively with team members and maintains good inter-functional liaison to ensure smooth implementation of operational activities.Communicates applicable regulatory requirements in a timely and clear manner within the division.Education:Essential:High School CertificatePreferred:Competent in using other eye images equipment such as OCT.Experience:Essential:0-1 years clinical experience in ambulatory setting.Certificate & Licensure: Essential:Basic Introduction to Diabetic Retinopathy Grading CoursePreferred:Certificate of Advance Diabetic Retinopathy Grading CourseJob Specific Skills & Abilities:Essential:Fluent in spoken and written English.Excellent interpersonal skills.Must be proficient in the use of an electronic medical record and other computer skills.Preferred:Fluent in spoken and written Arabic.
