Job Title: Senior Web Developer (ECommerce Specialist)

Location: Cairo, Egypt - Remote

Job Type: Freelancer – Contract Based (long-term)

Company Overview: IRIS COMMUNICATIONS [Egypt] is a forward-thinking Marketing & Advertising consultancy agency that prides itself on delivering top-tier digital experiences.
Position Overview: This role is ideal for a highly skilled and experienced Senior eCommerce Web Developer(s) with 5+ years in the field; you will be responsible for designing (from SW perspectives), developing, and maintaining eCommerce websites using platforms such as; Shopify, Magento and WooCommerce. You will work closely with our design, UI UX strategist, marketing consultant, content and product teams to create seamless, user-friendly online shopping experiences. Your role will also involve optimizing website performance, ensuring security, testing functionality and implementing new features to meet business goals.

Key Responsibilities:
Primary Role: Build and manage and maintain the backend and frontend of eCommerce platforms, focusing on functionality, integrations, and overall site performance and technical functionalities as per the project’s software requirements specification (SRS).
Development & Design:
- Lead the design and development of custom eCommerce websites using Shopify, WooCommerce or Magento.
- Develop custom themes, plugins, and modules to enhance website functionality.
- Setting up payment gateways, inside the following locations: (Egypt, KSA)
- Managing product databases.
- To handle API integrations (e.g., CRM, ERP, marketing automation tools) and work on features like shopping carts, checkout processes, and order management systems.
ECommerce Optimization:
- Optimize website performance, including speed, scalability, and security.
- Optimizing page load speeds, and Implement SEO best practices to improve site rankings and visibility.
- Integrate third-party applications and payment gateways to enhance eCommerce functionality.
- Set up and configure eCommerce platforms, including product catalogs, checkout processes, implementing email automation scenarios and shipping options.
Cross-Browser Compatibility:
- Collaborate with UI/UX designer(s)/developer(s) to implement bilingual, responsive and visually appealing web designs.
- Ensure cross-browser functionality and consistency across all major browsers (Google Chrome, Safari and Microsoft Edge) and devices (mobile phones, tablets, wearable devices, etc...), implementing responsive design and performing cross-browser testing to identify and fix compatibility issues.
Technical Leadership:
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior developer(s) once needed.
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in eCommerce development.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
- Ensure the quality of code through code reviews, testing, and debugging.
- Advising product owner(s) whenever needed and without questioning, in order to come up with the best technical and cost-effective solution possible.
Project Management:
- Work closely with project managers to define project scope, timelines, and deliverables.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and ensure timely delivery of high-quality work.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to understand requirements and provide technical insights.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Web Development, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of “proven” experience in web development, with a strong focus on e-commerce.
Proven experience with eCommerce platforms like; (Magento, Shopify, BigCommerce and WooCommerce), including custom theme and plugin development.
Strong proficiency in front-end technologies, including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery, in order to cooperate with UI Developer(s) to implementing frontend.
Knowledge of React.js or Vue.js or Angular.js for front-end development.
Understanding of DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Docker, CI/CD pipelines).
Solid understanding of back-end technologies such as PHP, MySQL, and RESTful APIs.
Certified Candidates are highly recommended.

Preferred Skills:

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative environment.
Experience with version control systems like Git.
Familiarity with SEO, performance optimization, and security best practices for eCommerce.
Experience in A/B testing and conversion rate optimization.
Excellent problem-solving skills and Proficient in identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving code bugs and implementation challenges, both through structured unit testing and quick visual inspections.
Strong commitment to clear and consistent code documentation, ensuring that all line-coded work and project structures are well-documented for maintainability, scalability, and team collaboration.
