POSITION TITLE: STAFF NURSE - JRUPOSITION SUMMARY:A registered professional Medical / Surgical (Orthopaedics) nurse who provides direct patient care and coordinates patient care-related activities using the scientific process of nursing. Nursing care given to paediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric population.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Demonstrates problem solving / critical thinking skills ensuring effective functioning of unit routine.Collaborates with multi-disciplinary team to provide patient care.Demonstrates organizational skills as team leader / in-charge nurse.Participates in staff meetings and unit committees / projects.Demonstrates cooperation, coordination and respect among individuals / departments in order to provide excellent customer service (internal and external)Demonstrates cooperation and respect with the nursing supervisor and provides support in bed managementParticipates in developing and achieving unit goalsPerforms additional duties when requiredDemonstrates responsibility for store maintenance and capture of charges Participate in inventory and lost charges count as well as store organizationAppropriate use of the sick leave systemParticipate in monthly environmental rounds Responsible for obtaining the required CPD points (15) every year for re-licensure Maintains a safe, hygienic JCI standard unit environment.Demonstrates skills in continual assessment of patient, family’s physical and psychological needs and ability to document in line with hospital standardsDemonstrates skill in co-ordination and planning of care / clinical pathway, and prioritizing care, based on individual needs. Revises care plan in response to patient needsDemonstrates knowledge of and the ability to render care and services based on specific unit specialities, age appropriateness, and patient care developmentPerforms nursing interventions / procedures in accordance with established standards of care and policy and proceduresAssists medical colleagues with diagnostic therapeutic interventionsMaintains accurate and thorough documentation following established JCIA and hospital standardsFloats to other areas within the hospital when requiredShares knowledge and skills with colleagues and othersMaintains a safe environment for patients and staffMaintains commitment to professional development of self through completion of unit competent ices i.e. pain management, utilization of auto-transfusion devicesAs Registered Nurse understands the responsibilities of safe handling, drawing, administrating Narcotic/Controlled Drugs and documentation as directed by policies and proceduresDemonstrates knowledge and clinical expertise of Infection Control issues, reports and documents as directed in the Infection Control policies and procedures.Demonstrates responsibility for maintaining patient medications and refunding to the pharmacy any discontinued medicationsDemonstrates responsibility for floor stock medicationsHas a sense of belonging to the unit, is cooperative with fellow staff members, and ready to help out and work overtime when neededWork is performed on any shift as requiredEnsures a complete and accurate handover has been given to the next shiftMaintains clinical and professional competency based on the latest research and established standards of practice.Has an understanding of current unit-based PI activitiesActively participates in PI Plan by reporting incidents, customer complaints, medication errors, and other KPI eventsAssesses and documents education needs and provides effective and age appropriate education to patients / families.Participates in ongoing educational activities.Maintains mandatory educational requirements annually.Contributes to professional development of colleagues.QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor Degree in Nursing (duration not less than three years) orDiploma in Nursing (not less than three academic years in nursing only) orDiploma in Nursing and Midwifery (not less than three academic years) PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:At least three (3) years of recent post-graduate nursing experience.Current license to practice nursing.Orthopaedics experience desirable. BLS certificationPrivate hospital experience desirableRESPONSIBILITIESWorks with doctors to perform treatments on patients with musculoskeletal conditions.Monitors the patient’s health and general body condition and reports changes and improvements to the doctor.Takes pain prescriptions from the doctors and administers same to the patients.Prepares a pain management schedule for patients based on doctors’ prescriptions to prevent patients from suffering from pain.Monitors and attends to any signs of negative reactions to drugs and allergies.Educates patients on steps to take to manage pain and how to avoid post-surgical infections.Manages patient’s hygiene by assisting with bedpan changes, body cleaning and diaper changes in some cases.Helps injured patients manage and treat pain and get better after injury.Assists orthopaedic doctors in performing their duties.Performs wound dressing on patients with infections.Monitors the vital signs of patients.Helps form support groups for patients.Helps patients improve mobility and functionality by helping them redesign their personal spaces and recommending gadgets and furniture that help to support the bone structure and promote healing.Collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to provide patient care.Demonstrates organizational skills as team leader / in-charge nurse.Participates in staff meetings and unit committees/projects.Demonstrates cooperation, coordination and respect among individuals/departments in order to provide excellent customer service (internal and external).Demonstrates cooperation and respect with the nursing supervisor and provides support in bed management.Participates in inventory and lost charges count as well as store organization.Participates in monthly environmental rounds.Responsible for obtaining the required Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points of fifteen (15) every year for re-licensure.Performs nursing interventions/procedures in accordance with established standards of care and policy and procedures.Maintains commitment to professional development of self through completion of unit competent ices i.e. pain management, utilization of auto-transfusion devicesDemonstrates responsibility for maintaining patient medications and refunding to the pharmacy any discontinued medications.Ensures a complete and accurate handover has been given to the next shift.Maintains clinical and professional competency based on the latest research and established standards of practice.Adheres to the current unit-based PI activities.Participates in PI Plan by reporting incidents, customer complaints, medication errors, and other KPI events.Assesses and documents education needs and provides effective and age-appropriate education to patients/families.Assists medical colleagues with diagnostic therapeutic interventions.Floats to other areas within the hospital when required.Maintains a safe environment for patients and staffParticipates in ongoing educational activities.Maintains mandatory educational requirements annually.Contributes to the professional development of colleagues.Participates in developing and achieving unit goals.Performs additional duties when required.QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree in nursing (minimum of three (3) years full-time course duration) orDegree in Nursing (minimum two (2) years course duration) and Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, and AustraliaFor UAE nationals graduates of UAE or non-UAE universities are exempted from the experience and clinical training requirements for the applied title. (UAE National must submit a copy of their birth certificate and the mother’s family book)Non-UAE national graduates from UAE universities are required to successfully complete six (6) months of clinical training post-graduation in an APS health facility (except for Registered and assistant Nurse titles)Must hold a valid License/Registration to practice in their home country and/or country of last employment (where applicable)Must hold a minimum of a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or others according to the scope of practicePROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:At least two (2) years of recent post-graduate nursing experienceKnowledge of and ability to render care and services based on age, appropriateness and developmental needs of patientsSkills in assessment of patient and family's physical and psychological needsSkills in coordination and planning of care and prioritising care based on individual needs
