Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Ink Lab Engineer to join our printing team. The ideal candidate will have 2–3 years of hands-on experience working with offset printing inks, ensuring ink quality, consistency, and performance for various print jobs. This role is critical in supporting production with accurate color matching, formulation, and troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Formulate and prepare custom ink mixtures based on production requirements and customer specifications.
- Conduct color matching and shade corrections using tools such as spectrophotometers and color guides (e.g., Pantone).
- Test ink properties (viscosity, pH, tack, drying time, adhesion, etc.) to ensure performance on different substrates.
- Collaborate with press operators to ensure ink behavior is optimal during printing runs.
- Troubleshoot ink-related issues such as emulsification, scumming, misting, or drying problems on offset printing presses.
- Maintain inventory of ink stocks, base colors, and additives.
- Keep detailed lab records of formulations, test results, and production feedback.
- Support R&D efforts for new ink products or improvements in existing formulations.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Applied Arts, or a related field.
- 2–3 years of relevant experience in an ink lab, preferably in the offset printing sector.
- Strong understanding of ink chemistry, pigment dispersion, and solvent/oil-based systems.
- Familiarity with color measurement tools and ink testing equipment.
- Good communication and teamwork skills to coordinate with production and quality departments.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to work under time-sensitive production conditions.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience working with UV inks, metallic inks, or specialty coatings.
- Knowledge of ISO color standards or G7 color management principles.
- Exposure to environmental regulations related to inks and chemicals.
