Job Description
PROJECT BACKGROUND: Feed the Future Egypt Rural Agribusiness Strengthening Project (“the Project”) is an eight-year USAID-funded activity, supported by the U.S. government’s Feed the Future initiative. The Project aims to improve the competitiveness of Egypt’s horticulture producers and related down-stream businesses and food processors. The Project promotes a more competitive and inclusive Egyptian economy through growth in selected horticultural sectors with special focus on securing employment and increasing agriculture-related incomes of smallholder farmers. The Project works in greater Cairo, Upper Egypt, and the Nile Delta, through three strategic regional offices in Luxor, Minya and Gharbia, in addition to the main office in Dokki, Giza.
ASSIGNMENT BACKGROUND: The Training Consultancy for Project value chains is critical toward the overall success of the Project. The Project value chains include herbs and spices such as basil, mint and fennel. The consultant will work alongside key Project staff, including the Production Post-Harvest (PPH) Lead, Post-Harvest Lead, and field coordinators, to implement training curriculum that will address critical weaknesses amongst all Project target groups that include smallholder farmers, laborers, producer organizations (PO’s), University graduates, agricultural technical school (ATS) students and graduates, service providers and logistics companies. The consultant will be required to make several trips to the field in different governorates.
ASSIGNMENT DURATION: Maximum of 115 days during 2025.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Curriculum development
- Attend Training of Trainers (ToT) technical curriculum structure and training strategies so the Project has the same message delivered to farmers and other sectors.
Farmers’ capacity building
- Discuss technical training needs of the Project’s farmers and training staff
- Design tailored technical support program that fulfills the project indicators
- Provide training to the Project’s farmers and beneficiaries in each governorate to ensure that they are capable of effectively implementing the Project interventions
Farmers Follow up Visits
- Assess implementation of training recommendations
- Identify and resolve any field issue as requested.
- Follow up the technical assistants’ performance.
Other Tasks
- Provide training and technical assistance for the Project’s Grantees as needed.
DELIVERABLES:
- Training materials, training presentation and handouts
- Written report on results of training implementation
- Written field assessment reports of farmers' technical progress
- Technical recommendations responding to farmers queries.
- Identification of production challenges and practical solutions
LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION AND HANDOUTS:
The consultant will deliver the training in Arabic. Handouts and training material, presentations and exercises will be in Arabic.
Job Requirements
- 3-5 Experience implementing field training.
- Advanced relevant degree
- Expertise related to integrated management practices.
- Previous work experience in development projects with small farmers is preferable.
- Experience training university/ATS students and graduates is preferable
