Job Description
PURPOSE & SCOPE
The Heavy Vehicles Driver transports goods and people in a safe and timely manner, in accordance with ICRC rules and regulations and national traffic laws.
Geographical remit: local to regional, depending on the type of work or assignment.
RELATIONSHIPS
- Internally, interacts mainly with logistics staff and other ICRC employees.
- Externally, interacts with people related to their work, e.g. traffic police, weapon bearers at checkpoints, fuel-station personnel, etc. May interact with beneficiaries on rare occasions.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Functional Responsibilities:
- Drives trucks and other vehicles in strict adherence to internal security rules and national traffic laws; drives efficiently to minimize fuel consumption and use of material.
- Constantly monitors security conditions on the road.
- Is accountable for the cargo under their supervision, from signing of the waybill to delivery.
- Loads and unloads the truck or supervises loading and unloading.
- Ensures that goods are stored inside the vehicle according to local, international and ICRC safety standards (attachment and distribution of goods, use of pallets, etc.).
- Checks their assigned vehicle(s)' equipment, general functioning and body condition and ensures that it is kept fuelled and clean inside and out.
- Checks that trips have been authorized where necessary.
- Immediately reports accidents, defects and/or missing equipment to management.
- Can act as head of convoy as needed (in charge of the driver(s), application of security rules and time-frame for the convoy).
- Ensures that risks are mitigated by performing the controls assigned to his/her role as described in the Logistics Risk and Control Matrix
Job Requirements
Certifications / Education required
- Secondary school diploma
- Driving license B, C, D and E and license to pull 40-MT trailers (C1E)
- Knowledge (spoken and written) of English
Professional Experience required
- Good knowledge of the security situation and terrain in the area of assignment.
- Minimum two years' experience as a truck driver.
- Ability to change a tyre and carry out other minor repairs (e.g. change light bulbs) on the road.
- Female is eligible to apply for this Job.
- Follow truck driving rules and regulations regarding size, weight, routing, parking, and rest periods.
