Job Description
- conduct thorough inspections of surface preparation procedures, ensuring they meet project specifications and industry standards (e.g., SSPC, NACE)
- Verify the suitability and compatibility of coating materials for specific applications
- Inspect coating application processes, ensuring proper application techniques and equipment usage
- Perform wet film thickness (WFT) and dry film thickness (DFT) measurements
- Conduct visual inspections of the applied coating for defects, including adhesion, surface irregularities, and pinholes
- Utilize non-destructive testing (NDT) methods (optional, depending on project requirements) such as holiday detection or ultrasonic testing
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive inspection reports, documenting findings, interpretations, and recommendations
- Identify and report coating discrepancies and non-conformances
- Work with applicators and supervisors to address coating deficiencies and ensure corrective actions are implemented
- Stay up-to-date on the latest coating technologies, inspection techniques, and relevant standards
- May participate in developing and implementing quality control programs for coating activities
- Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other QA personnel to ensure project quality objectives are met
- May provide technical guidance and training to less experienced inspectors.
Job Requirements
- Previous experience working as a QA/QC Coating/Painting Inspector
- Knowledge of industry standards and practices for surface preparation, application and curing of coatings, and painting inspection techniques (e.g. NACE, SSPC, ASTM)
- Experience in conducting visual, mechanical, and chemical tests for surface preparation and painting application
- Experience in coordinating with relevant stakeholders to ensure that specifications and requirements are met
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, specifications, blueprints, and drawings
- Certification in coatings inspection (e.g. NACE CIP level 1 or 2, SSPC PCI level 1 or 2) is preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or a related field.
