Job Description

Job Purpose:

To oversee and ensure the highest quality welding processes in the fabrication of steel pressure vessels, complying with international standards such as ASME, API, and ISO. The Welding Engineer will be responsible for welding procedure development, welder qualification, inspection oversight, and continuous quality improvement in welding operations.

Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and qualify Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) in accordance with ASME Section IX and applicable codes.
• Supervise and certify welder qualifications (WPQ/WQTR) to ensure competency and compliance with project requirements.
• Conduct welding inspections (visual, dimensional, and non-destructive testing coordination) to ensure product quality.
• Monitor welding processes and parameters to ensure adherence to established procedures and minimize welding defects.
• Analyze welding defects and lead root cause analysis to implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Liaise with third-party inspectors and clients during audits, inspections, and project approvals.
• Ensure proper documentation and record keeping of welding activities, inspection reports, and quality records.
• Support production teams by providing technical guidance on welding challenges and best practices.
• Stay updated with latest industry standards, codes, and technological developments in welding and fabrication.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical field.
• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in welding quality control within steel fabrication/pressure vessels.
• In-depth knowledge of ASME Section VIII, Section IX, AWS, and relevant international standards.
• Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent certification (preferred).
• Strong understanding of NDT methods (UT, RT, PT, MT) and welding metallurgy.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Ability to lead and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
