Job Description
- Conduct patent searches and analysis: Perform comprehensive searches of existing patents, scientific literature, and databases to identify relevant prior art, evaluate patentability, and assess the novelty of inventions.
- Patent drafting: Collaborate with senior patent agents/attorneys to draft patent applications and prepare supporting documents, including claims, specifications, and drawings, adhering to legal and technical guidelines.
- Intellectual property research: Stay updated on the latest developments in patent laws, regulations, and industry trends, conducting in-depth research on specific scientific and technological areas relevant to client needs.
- Patent portfolio management: Assist in managing and maintaining the patent portfolios of clients, including monitoring filing deadlines, preparing responses to office actions, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
- Collaboration and communication: Work closely with patent agents/attorneys, scientists, inventors, and other stakeholders to understand inventions, conduct interviews, and gather technical information for patent applications.
- Prior art analysis: Analyze prior art references to identify potential risks and opportunities, contribute to freedom-to-operate assessments, and provide support for patent infringement and validity opinions.
- Documentation and administrative tasks: Maintain accurate records and documentation related to patent applications, filings, correspondence, and other relevant legal and technical information.
Job Requirements
- Education: A Bachelor's degree Science or Engineering from an accredited university. A postgraduate degree in Intellectual Property Law or related field is a plus.
- Technical proficiency: Strong scientific background with knowledge in relevant scientific disciplines, such as chemistry, biology, pharmacology, or related fields. Understanding of research methodologies and ability to comprehend complex scientific literature.
- Analytical skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to critically evaluate technical information, identify key concepts, and extract relevant data for patent analysis. Attention to detail is crucial for accurate and comprehensive prior art searches.
- Communication skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey complex scientific and legal concepts to diverse audiences. Proficiency in technical writing is highly desired.
- Team player: Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, interact with cross-functional teams, and establish positive working relationships with colleagues and clients.
- Adaptability: Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, scientific advancements, and changes in patent laws and regulations.
