Job Description
The Senior Facility Engineer is responsible for overseeing the maintenance,
operation, and optimization of facility systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, structural,
etc.), including cleaning/janitorial services and landscape maintenance, to ensure
reliability, safety, and compliance. This role involves leading maintenance teams,
managing contractors, and implementing cost-effective engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Facility Operations & Maintenance
Supervise the maintenance, repair, and inspection of mechanical, electrical, and
plumbing (MEP) systems.
Oversee cleaning and janitorial services, ensuring high standards of cleanliness
and sanitation are maintained.
Manage landscape maintenance, including groundskeeping, irrigation
systems, and outdoor facilities.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and other regulatory standards.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance (PM) programs to maximize
equipment lifespan.
Monitor energy and water consumption and recommend efficiency
improvements.
2. Cleaning & Janitorial Services Supervision
Manage and evaluate third-party cleaning vendors or in-house janitorial staff,
ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
Conduct regular inspections of facilities to assess cleanliness and hygiene
standards.
Develop and enforce cleaning protocols, including waste disposal, pest control,
and hazardous material handling.
Coordinate deep-cleaning schedules and special cleaning projects (e.g., post-
construction, seasonal cleaning).
3. Landscape & Grounds Maintenance Supervision
Supervise landscape staff to maintain outdoor areas (lawns, gardens,
walkways, parking lots).
Oversee irrigation system maintenance, seasonal planting, and pest/weed
control programs.
Ensure compliance with local environmental regulations for landscaping
(water usage, chemical applications).
Manage hardscape maintenance (paving, fencing, outdoor lighting).
4. Project Management
Lead facility upgrades, renovations, and capital improvement projects (indoor
and outdoor).
Manage contractors, vendors, and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective
project completion.
Review engineering designs, blueprints, and specifications for compliance and
feasibility.
5. Technical Troubleshooting
Diagnose and resolve complex MEP system failures
Provide technical guidance to maintenance staff.
6. Safety & Compliance
Conduct risk assessments for indoor and outdoor facilities and ensure adherence
to EH&S policies.
Coordinate safety inspections (fire, electrical, environmental, landscape-related)
and maintain records.
Develop emergency response protocols for critical system failures and weather-
related events.
7. Budget & Reporting
Assist in preparing annual OPEX/CAPEX budgets for facility operations,
including cleaning and landscape services.
Analyze equipment and landscape performance data and recommend upgrades
or replacements.
Generate reports on system reliability, energy/water usage, maintenance costs,
and service performance.
Job Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Facilities
Management, or related field.
Experience: 3+ years in facility engineering,
and experience managing cleaning/janitorial and landscape services.
Certifications (Preferred):
o Professional Engineer (PE) License
o Certified Facility Manager (CFM)
o Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
o PMP (Project Management Professional)
o Landscape Industry Certified Technician (if applicable)
Technical Skills:
o Proficient in BMS, AutoCAD, CMMS, and irrigation control systems.
o Knowledge of LEAN/Six Sigma methodologies.
Soft Skills: Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
Work Environment:
May require on-call availability for emergencies.
Ability to perform physical inspections (indoor/outdoor, climbing ladders, confined
spaces, etc.).
