Job Description
The Kano State Government of Nigeria, West Africa is in the process of building new Water Supply Plants along with the rehabilitation of existing ones. This process will cover general improvement of the water supply infrastructure, maintenance of high capacity Generators, maintenance of Raw Water and High Lift Pumps as well as the maintenance of other electro-mechanical equipment. The overall objective of the entire program is to rejuvenate and enhance the water supply infrastructure and the process of portable water supply to the Urban and Rural Areas of Kano State.
Towards meeting this cardinal objective, the Kano State Government is desirous of obtaining the services of qualified and experienced professionals to be employed to work in Kano State, Nigeria to participate in the planned portable water supply program. Consequently, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria hereby, on behalf of the Kano State Government, invites applications from interested and qualified professionals .
Position Summary
The Structural Engineer will play a key role in designing, reviewing, and overseeing the construction and rehabilitation of structural components associated with the water supply infrastructure. The engineer will ensure the structural integrity, safety, and durability of all new and existing water-related facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Design and review structural plans for water treatment plants, reservoirs, pump stations, water towers, and other associated facilities.
Conduct site assessments and structural evaluations of existing infrastructure to determine necessary rehabilitation measures.
Prepare detailed engineering drawings, structural calculations, specifications, and reports.
Supervise and inspect ongoing structural works to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety codes, and quality standards.
Work closely with civil, mechanical, electrical, and environmental engineers to ensure integrated and coordinated project execution.
Evaluate and recommend construction materials suited to project needs, environmental conditions, and sustainability requirements.
Support in the development of tender documents and technical evaluation of contractor bids.
Provide technical input and advice to project managers, contractors, and government stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with Nigerian building codes, environmental regulations, and international best practices.
Job Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering from an accredited institution. A Master's degree is an advantage.
Minimum of 5 years of practical experience in structural engineering, preferably in water infrastructure or public utility projects.
Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, AutoCAD).
Registration with COREN or other recognized engineering regulatory bodies is highly desirable.
Solid understanding of construction practices, geotechnical principles, and material performance in water infrastructure contexts.
Demonstrated experience in supervising field construction and infrastructure rehabilitation works.
