Job Description
To own and manage the country specific exploration business including but not limited to
The implementation of the agreed exploration strategy.
Definition and execution of effective exploration plans with a key focus on safety.
Ensuring best practice in exploration workflows and geological data collection and interpretation.
Instilling a robust ‘Mineral Intelligence’ in the team including identification and motivation of 3rd part opportunities that have the potential to pass Barrick’s investment filters.
Management and oversight of exploration joint ventures.
Reporting including board and management presentations.
Budgeting and costs control.
Ensuring appropriate exploration staffing, training and skills development.
Partner with MRM to replace depletion around existing operations by defining robust target pipelines.
Make new discoveries that fit the group’s economic filters.
Custodianship of the exploration data and orebodies within the country.
Ensure robust geological models are built for each of the deposits and/or targets based on lithology, alteration, structure and mineralisation data.
Efficiently and cost effectively explore priority targets and maintain a dynamic resource triangle.
Ensure an effective integration of all geological data in order to continuously improve the geological models.
Develop and manage the country Exploration team in line with the Barrick DNA.
Ensure strong relationships with appropriate host country officials, including the geological surveys.
Qualification Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Geology / Geoscience from a recognized institution.
Advanced Degree (MSc / PhD) will be viewed favourably.
Experience And Skills Requirements
10-15 years’ experience in greenfield / brownfield exploration, including 5+ years within supervisory/ manager roles.
Demonstrated commitment to safety, community and environment.
Extensive experience in orogenic, structurally controlled gold deposits and VMS experience is seen as advantageous.
Exposure to world class exploration districts and Tier 1 ore bodies, with a track record of discovery seen advantageously.
Firm understanding and recognition of mineralization models and geological processes.
Geological / geophysical / geochemical interpretive and integration skills.
Significant field-based exploration experience in Africa and/or the Middle East.
Self-motivated and discovery driven, with focus on leadership.
Displayed ability to work within high performing, multidisciplinary, successful team.
Demonstrated proficiency in GIS and 3D geological modelling software.
Experience with ArcGIS, Leapfrog Geo, Micromine, ioGAS is considered an asset.
Ability to deliver concise technical and business focused presentations and reports in simple to understand format to a broad audience of cross functional peers and stakeholders required.
Good communication and administration skills.
Continued professional development, technical training and a member of professional organisations.
Europe or Africa / Middle East based candidates are preferred.
