Job Description
Daily Responsibilities – Behavior Therapist
As a Behavior Therapist at Sparks Preschool, your role is essential in fostering a supportive and structured learning environment for all children. Your daily tasks will include:
- Classroom Observations: Conduct regular observations across all classes to identify children who may need behavioral support and assess classroom dynamics.
- Individualized Support: Provide one-on-one sessions for children requiring additional intervention, using evidence-based strategies to enhance their social, emotional, and behavioral skills.
- Teacher Collaboration: Assist teachers in managing challenging behaviors by offering real-time guidance, modeling effective intervention techniques, and suggesting classroom modifications.
- Behavior Tracking & Reporting: Monitor students’ progress through structured behavioral assessments and maintain detailed reports to track improvements and areas needing further support.
- Team Communication: Regularly update academic coordinators and teachers on observed behaviors, intervention outcomes, and recommended strategies for consistency across learning environments.
- Parent Meetings: Engage with parents to discuss their child's progress, address concerns, and provide reinforcement strategies to implement at home for consistency.
- Positive Reinforcement: Apply and promote positive reinforcement techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors and reduce behavioral challenges.
- Behavior Plan Development: Design and implement individualized behavior intervention plans, ensuring proper execution and adjustments based on the child's progress.
Monthly Responsibilities – Behavior Therapist
- Behavioral Assessments: Conduct in-depth evaluations of children receiving behavioral support, tracking their progress and adjusting intervention plans as needed.
- Teacher Workshops & Training: Organize training sessions for teachers on behavior management techniques, de-escalation strategies, and positive reinforcement methods.
- Data Review & Reporting: Compile and analyze behavioral data to assess trends, identify areas for improvement, and present findings to the academic coordinators.
- Parent Check-ins & Workshops: Hold monthly check-in meetings with parents to discuss their child’s development and offer workshops on managing behaviors at home.
- Curriculum & Environment Adjustments: Collaborate with academic coordinators to ensure the classroom environment and activities align with behavioral best practices.
- Crisis Intervention Planning: Review and update intervention protocols for handling behavioral crises to ensure a safe and supportive preschool environment.
Team Strategy Meetings: Participate in monthly meetings with academic coordinators, teachers, and management to align behavioral intervention strategies with Sparks' overall educational approach.
Job Requirements
Qualifications & Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Special Education, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
- Certification or training in Behavior Analysis, Child Development, or Special Education is preferred.
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience working with young children in a behavioral or educational setting.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of child psychology, behavioral interventions, and positive reinforcement techniques.
- Experience in assessing, tracking, and managing children's behavior in a classroom setting.
- Ability to develop and implement individualized behavior intervention plans.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with teachers, parents, and academic coordinators.
- Ability to train and support teachers in managing challenging behaviors.
- Strong documentation and reporting skills for tracking progress and presenting behavioral assessments.
- Problem-solving and crisis management abilities to handle behavioral challenges calmly and effectively.
- Passionate about child development and committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
Additional Requirements:
- Fluency in English (both spoken and written).
