IB Middle Years Program Coordinator Job Description

Purpose

The IB MYP Coordinator ensures a high-quality and effective IB Middle Years Program that is implemented in all its facets, including, but not limited to:

• Support the Mission, Vision, and Values of UIS
• Implement all school policies and procedures
• Course curriculum
• Teacher training
• Service as Action
• Personal Project
• Community outreach and education
• Meeting deadlines

Specific Duties

Program Management

• Lead and oversee the MYP through IB candidacy, authorization, and evaluation 
• Guide teachers in the creation and implementation of interdisciplinary units and high-quality teaching and learning
• Ensure horizontal and vertical alignment of the developed curriculum 
• Ensure that US Common Core standards guide all curriculum development
• Ensure that all curricular units are properly uploaded and revised in and through Toddle
• Provide support to ensure success in learning and personal development of all students in Grades 6 to 10
• Monitor and support student academic progress 
• Periodically review curricular units with collaborative groups to ensure that global contexts, key concepts, and required objectives/criteria are being properly addressed across all subjects throughout the five years of the Program
• Ensure that the Personal Project and Service as Action Coordinators maintain thorough, up-to-date documentation relating to the responsibility of their roles
• Collaborate with the IB DP and IB PYP Coordinators to facilitate a smooth student transition from one Program to the next at the end of each school year
• Ensure that appropriate formative and summative MYP assessment tasks are used
• Develop and manage the MYP Professional Development Plan, including registering and maintaining records of successful completion of IB workshops
• Record and track invoices as they are provided by the IB and paid by UIS
• Ensure that the school meets all IB MYP deadlines
• Review all relevant IB publications, informing staff of updates regarding the program
• Review comments on all term reports, ensuring the accuracy of communications
• Ensure the continuum of Programs through curriculum mapping

Staff Development

• Establish and attend collaboration meetings for all MYP teachers in order to develop, maintain, and enhance the curriculum, differentiation of the curriculum, develop and implement quality assessments, and ensure curricular alignment 
• Ensure that all staff members have the skills necessary to use Toddle to document planning, assessment data and complete term reports
• Organize and lead teacher professional development on a weekly basis in line with the Secondary Professional Development Plan

Communication

• Ensure that communications such as newsletters, social media posts, meetings, and presentations are provided to parents and students about the requirements of the MYP implementation elements that include:
  • The MYP authorization process
  • Approaches to Teaching and Learning skills
  • Key concepts and global contexts
  • Statements of inquiry
  • Assessment practices
  • The Personal Project
  • Interdisciplinary teaching and units

Additional Responsibilities

• Interview potential staff members, as requested
• Work with the Director and others in leadership to develop and enrich Secondary education and student life
• Attend and participate in periodic events to promote the school and IB programs
• Teach classes in accordance with the school’s schedule

Supervision

The IB MYP Coordinator supervises the Service as Learning Coordinator and the Personal Project Coordinator.

Duration and Commitment

The position is a three-year appointment.

Reporting Line

The IB MYP Coordinator reports to the Director until a Head of Secondary is appointed.
