Saint Mary - Elias International School for Girls (SMEIS) is seeking a passionate and experienced High School English Teacher to join our dedicated faculty. The ideal candidate will inspire students in Grades 10–12 to think critically, write effectively, and appreciate diverse literary voices through engaging instruction aligned with the American curriculum and Common Core State Standards (CCSS).
This role is ideal for an educator who is committed to preparing students for university-level reading and writing, while nurturing a love for literature, self-expression, and inquiry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement a comprehensive instructional program in English Language Arts (ELA) for grades 10–12.
- Teach a variety of literary genres including novels, poetry, drama, and non-fiction, while guiding students in advanced writing, research, and analysis.
- Develop lesson plans and assessments aligned with CCSS and high school learning objectives.
- Foster an inclusive, academically rigorous classroom environment that supports critical thinking, collaboration, and student voice.
- Prepare students for standardized assessments, university applications, and academic writing expectations beyond high school.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic and language needs of students.
- Incorporate technology, media literacy, and contemporary texts to enhance instruction and student engagement.
- Contribute to curriculum development and participate in school-wide initiatives and professional learning communities.
- Maintain open communication with students, parents, and colleagues to support student learning and success.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of successful high school teaching experience, preferably in an American curriculum setting.
- Deep understanding of high school literacy standards, curriculum planning, and instructional best practices.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to inspire, motivate, and build meaningful relationships with high school students.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective teaching practices.
