Job Title:
- Geotechnical Engineer
Division:
- Geotechnical Division
Function:
- To assist the Head of the Geotechnical Division in planning and executing soil investigation works, inspection, and consultation projects.
- To direct and carry out technical interpretation of soil and geotechnical data.
- To update and improve the accuracy and efficiency of testing and reporting systems, processes, and procedures related to the Geotechnical Division.
- To remain updated with the latest technical issues in geotechnics and geotechnical engineering.
- To oversee technical and logistical activities in geotechnical projects undertaken by the Geotechnical Division.
- To ensure a smooth and efficient day‐to‐day operation of the Geotechnical Division.
- To provide scientific judgment and interpretation of investigation and test results.
Reporting to the:
- Senior geotechnical engineer
- Head of Geotechnical Division.
Supervising:
- Geologists.
- Drillers.
- Assistant Drillers.
- Technicians and Labors working for the Geotechnical Division.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze data and soil samples through field and laboratory analysis to determine the type, classification, characteristics, and stability of soil.
- Coordinate with the Head of the Geotechnical Division/Senior Geotechnical Engineer for testing samples for the Geo-technical Division and its schedule..
- Prepare project schedule and ensure that schedule is timely met.
- Sign and approve testing work orders for the laboratory on behalf of the Geotechnical Division.
- Coordinate with Drilling Department or External Drilling Sub contractors cost, logistics, sequence, and schedule of drilling under the directives of the Head of Geotechnical Division.
- Determine if faults or fractures in soils would be detrimental to construction plans.
- Compute bearing weights and prepares maps, charts, and reports of test results.
- Make recommendations regarding foundation design, slope angles, grading, or building heights or any other geotechnical-related matter.
- Supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff in the Geotechnical Division.
- Provide a timely and accurate service in response to the Head of Geo-technical Division/senior GE requests.
- Control testing activities during construction projects and spot-check data for errors.
- Meet with inspectors, engineers, contractors, and/or developers to determine corrective action required when there are discrepancies between work done and the approved plans, specifications, and standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Co‐operation and Contact:
- With drillers, field supervisors, and engineers.
- With staff in the Geotechnical Division of the company.
- With staff from other Divisions and Departments of the company.
- With the Quality Manager and Quality officers and auditors from the company and with other auditors as directed by the HGD.
- With clients, suppliers, and subcontractors at all levels.
Job Requirements
Qualification, Education, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Engineering or relevant science with zero to three years of experience in Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
- Language Ability: (Arabic, English) Arabic: Read, Spoken, Written. English: Read, Spoken, Written
Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Average skills to write reports and business correspondences.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to work under pressure.
Computer Skills :
- Internet software, E‐mail, MS office, Inventory, and database software.
Work Environment:
- While performing his/her duties the Geo-technical Engineer might be exposed to environmental and physical hazards such as wet and/or humid conditions, precarious equipment and working areas, fumes, miscellaneous weather conditions, lifting heavy items, loud noise, and airborne particles.
