Job Description
The role of an Education Assistant (EA) is to support learning activities in the classroom: This includes
working under the guidance of teaching staff and within an agreed system of supervision, as well as the
implementation of agreed work programs with individuals/groups, in or out of the classroom. This could
include those requiring detailed and specialist knowledge in particular areas and will involve assisting the
teacher in the whole planning cycle and the management/ preparation of resources.
Job Requirements
A. Organizational skills
● Take direction and complete assigned tasks without difficulty
● Take initiative, to identify what needs to be done, and act appropriately (within the
realm of their responsibility)
B. Instructional Support
● Speak using appropriate voice level and developmentally appropriate language
● Reinforce teaching strategies as provided by the teacher
● Support students in all aspects of their daily program and demonstrates sensitivity to
individual student differences.
C. Observational Support
● Observe and report on student’s successes or difficulties accurately and consistently
● Provide notes, checklists, and/or verbal reports on student’s social interactions,
emotional well-being, and behavior as required by teachers.
D. Behaviour Management Support
● Provide student(s) with appropriate encouragement and support
● Apply good behavior management techniques as appropriate to individualized needs
● Reinforce strong classroom management skills as provided by the teacher
E. Classroom support
● Facilitate day to day tasks efficiently and competently
● Provide effective classroom/ non-classroom supervision
F. Professional Behaviour
● Be a cooperative member of the school team
● Demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality at all times
● Display a positive work ethic
● Treat students, and all school personnel, with respect at all times.
● Be punctual, reliable and trustworthy, and abide by the device-free policy
