Job Description

Background:

  • Caritas Egypt was established in 1967 as an “Emergency Aid-sector” providing Egyptians with essential needs. The government’s appreciation for Caritas’s active humanitarian contribution enabled it to be officially registered as a non-governmental organization at the Ministry of Social Affairs with the mission of combating poverty, exclusion, intolerance, and discrimination. Caritas empowers individuals to participate fully in all matters affecting their lives and seeks to make them subjects of their own development and agents of change.

Job Summary:

  • The psychologist will be responsible for the effective and timely implementation of the child protection project, ensuring appropriate data management and reporting. S/he will be responsible for conducting one to one session to the vulnerable cases ensuring that the project meets its target objectives in a timely, accountable and efficient manner, that data collection and reporting happens in accordance with global standards and project requirements.

Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Case Management Supervisor, the psychologist is responsible for

the duties below:

• Contribute to the design of intake forms, session plans, and follow-up forms for children and their families when relevant.

• Develop psychological intervention plans for identified cases and follow up on them regularly.

• Conduct one to one and group counselling sessions with children and families referred from the project other activities and from other projects by coordination with Case management.

• Identify, assess, refer severe cases to appropriate psychological/psychiatric service providers

• Prepare and submit individual case reports for all cases on their caseload and document case progress.

• Attend one to one and group supervision meetings (Face to face and online) with SCI MHUPSS officer.

• Ensure that all psychological interventions offered are informed by current scientific evidence.

• Adhere to the highest standards of practice.

• Participate in awareness raising campaigns on COVID-19 for remote and hard to reach communities delivering mental health, child protection and positive parenting messages

• Ensure that the activities are implemented in a full respect to the child safeguarding polices of

• Support in staff well-being activities that doesn’t affect the professional relationship and confidentiality of staff

(For Example: peer to peer support groups, work related stress awareness raising and stress

management training).

• Draft concise, useful and analytical reports, case studies, and other documents as needed on a monthly and quarterly basis.

• Organize and maintain filling system of the sessions

Job Requirements

Skills and knowledge:

• Excellent communication and coordination skills.

• Having experience working with children and families, including qualifications in providing support services for children and solid interviewing skills.

• Knowledge of refugee protection risks including.

• Understanding of child development and children’s wellbeing, as well as protection risks affecting children.

• Ability to identity capacity-building needs, develop capacity-building plans; and deliver training.

• Ability to provide guidance and supervision in a constructive manner.

• Ability to monitor work and performance in accordance with SOPs.

• Ability to work collaboratively with other professionals and organizations.

• Ability to plan and organize work, in accordance with the SOPs.

• Ability to manage stress and emotions.

• Ability to listen actively.

Qualifications and Experience:

• A university degree in psychology.

• 2-3 years of experience in family and/or child individual and group counselling, experience in working with migrants and refugees is an asset.

• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including team-leading and influencing.

• Extensive experience in delivering trainings.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills in Arabic and English are required.

• Demonstrates the highest standard of integrity and cultural sensitivity.
