Mainframe Developer (COBOL / DB2) – Hybrid Role in Germany (Düsseldorf Area)
Are you an experienced COBOL developer looking for a new challenge in an international environment? We're looking for a skilled mainframe professional to join a well-established IT team in Germany.
You will work on business-critical applications in a complex mainframe architecture (IBM), alongside colleagues from across the globe.
Relocation support is available in the form of a dedicated local contact person who will assist with administrative steps like registration, apartment search, and integration. Please note: we do not offer a full relocation package.
Your Responsibilities
- Work closely with international colleagues on long-term mainframe projects
- Analyze and develop COBOL-based applications in a large IBM system environment (DB2, IMS, CICS)
- Write and optimize SQL queries and contribute to database performance tuning
- Support in conceptualizing IT processes and translating them into working database models
- Maintain and improve automated batch job processes (TWS/OPC)
- Support project management tasks such as risk analysis, requirement discussions, and stakeholder communication

Job Requirements
- Degree in (Applied) Computer Science or equivalent technical training
- Solid experience with COBOL development and relational databases (ideally DB2)
- Strong knowledge of SQL and database tools
- Experience in IT process design and data modeling
- Familiarity with automated job scheduling (TWS or similar)
- Structured, solution-driven mindset
- Good English skills; basic German skills required (A2/B1 level)
- French is a plus
