Job Description

PROJECT BACKGROUND: Feed the Future Egypt Rural Agribusiness Strengthening Project (“the Project”) is an eight-year USAID-funded activity (2018 – 2026), supported by the U.S. government’s Feed the Future initiative. The Project aims to improve the competitiveness of Egypt’s horticulture producers and related down-stream businesses and food processors. The Project promotes a more competitive and inclusive Egyptian economy through growth in selected horticultural sectors with special focus on securing employment and increasing agriculture-related incomes of smallholder farmers. The Project operates in Greater Cairo, Upper Egypt, and the Nile Delta, through three strategic regional offices in Luxor, Minya and Gharbia, in addition to the main office in Giza. 

ASSIGNMENT BACKGROUND: Field Research Consultant (FRC) will mainly work with the Project' technical team, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL), and communications team to coordinate, and facilitate one-to-one meetings with the Project’s technical team to follow-up on previous annual activities, conduct field visits, collect and analysis qualitative and quantitative data directly from different stakeholders based in Cairo or governorates to show outcomes of each component, and submit a technical report in an understandable and appealing approach showing outcomes, and impact of the Project’s activities according to the Project protocols and procedures. FRC will assist the Project’s management, and team in developing a field research report showing the activities, progress, and outcomes to be delivered to the Project. In addition, he or she will present the outcomes of each activity, correlate different activities from different departments to showcase the Projects team efforts. FRC will work closely with the Communications Lead to ensure integrating MEL data collection data, incorporate, and analysis numbers across the reports. He or she will also work closely with the communications team to assist in the different reporting stages, and extract numbers to develop graphs, and factsheets reflecting the Project’s achievements.

ASSIGNMENT DURATION: Maximum of 115 days during 8 September - 30 October 2025. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the previously implemented activities that requires a follow-up to present outcomes of the activity.
  • Segment target audience for each activity under the different Project’s intermediate result (IR) for interviews or focus group discussions per governorate.
  • Select ideal collection tools to gather required information through individual interviews, focus groups, and forms.
  • Use both quantitative and qualitative data, a mixed methods approach, to extract data to show outcomes from each activity.
  • Prepare initial drafts of data collection tools for approval.
  • Plan with the technical team on individual meetings with stakeholders in Cairo.
  • Conduct a research field visit plan in Cairo, and governorates.
  • Plan with the Project’s field director in the three offices on field visits
  • Ensure to have a team that can work simultaneously
  • Conduct research field visits according to schedule
  • Document tools used, key findings, methodologies, and results in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Standardize all units of measure (e.g., kilograms, tons, meters, dollars, Egyptian Pounds) and number formats (e.g., decimal places, commas) for consistency across the report to ensure data comparability and clarity throughout the report.
  • Convert all data to a common unit of measure or format where appropriate for meaningful comparison and analysis within the report.
  • Ensure using technical key words across the report.
  • Document outcomes, and impact of the Project’s activities.
  • Document good practice already established in some agencies, and smallholder farmers and made recommendations for further progress.
  • Develop lessons learned challenges, and know-how methods.
  • Other tasks may be assigned by supervisors according to the Project’s needs.

DELIVERABLES:

  1. A monthly invoice including a daily log of the activities completed and LoE.
  2. Written report about the completed assigned tasks on monthly basis.
  3. Submission of a field research report that incorporates all outcomes per activity per governorate for each activity in a qualitative and quantitative form.

Job Requirements

  1. Must have worked with previous USAID projects.
  2. Proven working experience in field reporting.
  3. Ability to design data collection tools to grasp required information.
  4. Present outcomes in both qualitative and quantitative means.
  5. Ability to travel to different governorates.
  6. Ability to deliver high quality documentation paying attention to detail.
  7. Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures.
  8. Excellent written skills in English
  9. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, and online platforms
  10. Experience of communicating to different stakeholder groups and partners
  11. Must have the ability to pay full attention to what others are saying, understand the points being made, and ask appropriate questions.
  12. Ability to manage time effectively and perform multiple tasks.
  13. Communication and Teamwork Skills: Must be an excellent communicator, team-player with demonstrated interpersonal and networking skills.
