Position Summary:
The Nursing Supervisor – OR acts under the direction of the Head Nurse or Charge Nurse, overseeing nursing standards, ensuring safe patient care, and providing professional leadership in the Operating Room. The role involves direct patient care, staff supervision, infection control, quality improvement, and training support.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Clinical Duties:
- Monitor planning, delivery, and evaluation of individualized patient care.
- Ensure a safe, therapeutic, and supportive physical and psychological environment.
- Administer medications, treatments, and monitor patients as per physician orders.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient documentation.
Leadership & Supervision:
- Act on behalf of the Head Nurse in setting care standards.
- Lead and support nursing staff in delivering high-quality care.
- Handle shift-to-shift issues with documentation and follow-up.
- Support and orient new staff, students, and temporary personnel.
Infection Control & Quality Standards:
- Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and hospital policies.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives (CQI & PS).
- Apply evidence-based practices in patient care.
- Support GAHAR standards in OR operations.
Training & Development:
- Assist in the development of training programs and ongoing staff education.
- Participate in staff orientation and personal professional growth.
- Maintain valid Drug Calculation certification (biannually).
Resource Management:
- Use medical equipment and supplies responsibly and cost-effectively.
- Participate in supply ordering procedures within the set budget.
- Maintain drug custody and ensure proper medication administration.
Team Collaboration & Communication:
- Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare team members.
- Facilitate patient and family education with proper documentation.
- Ensure feedback and understanding of care instructions are provided.
Operating Room Competency:
- Demonstrate proficiency in pre-op, intra-op, and post-op care.
- Perform safe patient transfers and surgical preparation techniques.
- Demonstrate skills in scrubbing, gowning, and gloving procedures.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing (required)
- Minimum 2 years of experience as an OR Supervisor or Senior Nurse
- Experience in Infection Control and working with GAHAR standards
- Strong leadership, clinical, and communication skills
- Flexible to work morning and evening shifts
