Job Description
The Head of Credit Underwriter Unit is responsible for the proper organization of credit underwriter’s unit, fast and reliable decision-making process, and efficient cooperation between the business and credit administration units.
Main responsibilities and tasks
- The Head of Credit Underwriter Unit organizes a team of underwriters to review and evaluate loan applications submitted by Loan Officers to identify potential risks of the borrower
- Controls the performance of underwriters, the decision-making process and subsequent smooth cooperation between underwriter unit and other business and back-office units
- Proper and fast redistribution of loan applications, ensuring the highest processing speed of applications
- Assists credit underwriters to verify the accuracy of information received and calculations made during the financial analysis
- Decides on the credit exposure within his / her level of competence
- Propose changes and improvements to the existing process to achieve maximum efficiency in the decision-making process
- Assessment of the underwriters and providing of systematic feedback to subordinate personnel
- Responsible for the hiring and training of subordinate personnel, as well as loan officers in matters of financial analysis of the client
- Visits key customers to ensure the control function, on-the-job training of newly hired underwriters and studying of market standards
- Prepare performance reports related to applications approval / rejection rates, reasons for rejection, processing time of application, etc.
- Evaluate the performance of loan officers and sales representatives in their ability to conduct proper financial analysis of potential borrowers
- Identify and report suspicious transactions and decisions to management
- Guarantee the confidentiality of processed information, both clients and institution
Job Requirements
- University degree of economics / accounting / banking / finance
- Excellent spoken level of English (minimum Upper-Intermediate level)
- Good organizational, communication and presentation skills
- Experience in credit underwriting of microfinance clients (2 years +)
- Experience in staff management (1 year +)
- Ability to make independent decisions
- Good time management
- Strong educational skills
