Purpose:
Project management office director will be responsible for setting strategic direction, defining and maintaining project management methodologies and ongoing collaboration with technology solutions directors responsible for delivering IT projects for The American University in Cairo. As a key leader of the AUC IT project management office, candidate will responsible for driving continuous improvement in project management activities, champion a customer-centric culture and develop a service-oriented mindset fostering strong business and technology partnership. This is a transformational leadership role reporting to the CTO, will provide a high level of visibility and interaction with the technology solutions director always providing a high level guidance and direction to guarantee IT projects efficiencies and effectiveness, resource allocation and delivery dates.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Set strategic direction for standardized IT project management processes, methodologies and supporting technologies
- Evolve PMO processes, supporting technologies to be more standardized, agile and business focused
- Lead design and implementation of changes to existing setup to achieve the strategic direction
- Lead effective management of IT projects management triple constraint (scope, schedule, budget) while proactively identifying and managing project risks, delays and any other issues that might arise
- Enforce the role of the technology solutions director and project managers at AUC to provide enhanced business value and linkage to business and technology strategy
- Review and monitor status of IT projects and work with technology solutions director and project managers to appropriately manage risks and issues and provide solutions in collaboration with the CTO
- Provide regular project portfolio reporting to CTO and other key business stakeholders including the cabinet and upper management of the university whenever needed
- Engage with key internal business stakeholders to communicate status of projects, and resolve project risks and issues
- Establish and advance strategic partnerships and relationships within the IT organization and with cross-functional business units
- Develop and maintain a training strategy and curriculum
- Define and monitor operational metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs)
- Lead a continuous improvement mindset within the IT measured with operational metrics and KPIs
- Resource capacity management for all IT PMO resources
- Align and integrate IT project management processes with other AUC frameworks and processes where needed
- Stay current with market trends and innovative thinking related to technology governance and project management functions
Job Requirements
Requirements:
Minimum Education Requirement:
- Bachelor’s degree in arts, computer science, information technology, engineering, finance or business administration
- MBA or advanced certification desirable.
- Formal project management qualification (e.g. Project Management Professional) is a plus
- Agile project management certification (e.g. Certified Scrum Master) a plus
- ITIL certification a plus
Experience:
- Minimum of 12 years experience with minimum eight of operations management
- Knowledge and experience with the core PMO functions is a plus
- Experience and ability in development of techniques, methods and KPIs for different projects
Skills:
- Dynamic leader with proven capabilities in building high performance teams and delivering expected results in complex environments
- Deep experience with modern technology service delivery frameworks including Agile, DevOps and Continuous Integration/Continuous deployment
- Demonstrated experience leading large-scale change initiatives with university level impact including projects with extensive cross-functional technology team involvement
- Experience with a broad range of IT projects including customer software development, packaged software implementation, information security and technology infrastructure
- Proven success in leadership demonstrated by the ability to build, develop and retain high performing and highly effective teams

- Large-scale project leadership and delivery using modern project management methodologies
- A continuous improvement mindset with demonstrated ability to drive programs that reduce cost, increase agility and have measurable key performance indicators and metrics
- Strong people leadership capabilities including guiding and coaching team members when required, developing talent, and ensuring accountability for commitments that are made
- Direct experience leading complex IT projects with a combination of employee and contractor resources
