  • Great expertise in writing personal branding emails & content:(Ex: "The ramifications of you playing small
  • The greatest regret you are going to have is at the end of your life…

When, suddenly out of time, you realize you had all the time in the world, but you never did anything risky enough to make your dreams come true.

I realize this sounds weird, so let me share a story to explain how this works.

About four years ago I had a big choice to make.

Our lives are comprised of our choices, which compound over time, and the better our choices the better our end results…

I’d just secured my very first freelance copywriting client; who’d paid me $400 to write a bunch of copy for his new business launch.

I thought at the time, “If I could do this 10 times each month I’d make $4,000 per month!” My ‘day job’ was paying me $1,800/month. My next step was to learn how to go get more of these clients and officially make enough income to leave my day job.

The people who knew me said things like “$400 isn’t gonna pay the bills so just wait and see how it works out” and “you better hang onto that money and save it.” I didn’t have a “support system” or an environment like what our clients have today…

    I was on my own.

But here’s the kicker: the people giving me this advice were not the kind of people I would have wanted to trade places with. Nothing personally against them, but they weren’t rich. They weren’t wildly successful.

They didn’t have what I wanted… freedom, zeal, passion for their crafts..

They worked day jobs just like me…

Never follow the advice of a person you wouldn’t gladly trade places with. If they’re not ahead of you then what business do they have giving you any kind of advice?

I didn’t “keep my money.” Instead, I immediately went out and paid that $400 (plus $2k) to a mentor who I knew could help me put the pieces together faster.

Was it risky? Hell yea it was…

But in about 8 months, because I implemented what this person told me to do (kinda backed myself into a corner cause I had to pay that $2k off my AMEX), I was starting to have $25k, $36k, $27k MONTHS.

Obviously I quit my day job as soon as I replaced that income which freed me up to focus on getting better at my craft and taking on more clients.

But don’t skip over the big fork in the road here of this story: it was never guaranteed.

There are only 2 things you can be 100% certain about:

    1. The ‘mass’ opinions are always wrong

I like to ask myself “what would MOST people do in this situation?” And then remind myself that MOST people are broke, all jacked up, unhappy, unsuccessful, and that I don’t want to do what MOST people would do.
