The BA-Depository Library organizes The Model of American Congress program this year (2012/2013) in Alexandria. The Model gives students a chance to engage in a role-playing simulation of the United States Congress, introducing them to the diversity of American politics and society, and training them in civic leadership and political debate.
The U.S. Embassy has supported the Model of American Congress programs at Cairo University since its inception in 2002. In 2009, new programs started in Alexandria University in 2009 and were run for three consecutive years. Thousands of students from colleges in each city have participated in the program, which culminates in a successful MAC conference each summer. Leaders in each year’s program have traveled to Washington for hands-on training in American political process and an internship in Congress.
During the parliamentary elections this year, young MAC students in Cairo were actively involved in getting out the vote and educating other students about participation in the elections. Alumni of the program have gone on to leadership positions in Egyptian politics, activism, media and government.

Project objectives

The goal of the Model of American Congress program in Alexandria is to cultivate young leaders; improve their leadership, presentation and organizational skills in decision-making, teamwork and debate, through informal educational; and give students the opportunity to learn about the U.S legislative process and stay informed about current issues in American politics and life.

Job description

Control the hall through:

1- No texting… no side talks… and mobiles are silent.

2- Be very strict the same person if he talked more than 3 times u have to know him he /she will have a punishment (do a summery at the end of the session for 10 mins – at the end of the session he /she must say the name of all the senators and information about them as much as he can ).

Hall Ushers

3- He can have a seat between the senators but he /she must be sure that at least there is another one standing in the hall

4- Role of the hall usher between the senators is to energize them and join the discussions and workshops just like them but in a discipline way.

5- In workshops has to know what is the workshop talking about previously and he can explain it to the senators.

6- If standing near to the stage he will be awake“to help the presenter if needed. Working as a stage moderator here.

7- A hall usher standing at the back of the hall will control the door as the door will be closed when the session started unless for the urgent cases ( urgent parents call – toilet – leaving early – media members – logistics members changing places ) .

8- A hall usher standing near the door will be having a paper with the excuses persons who will leave early.

9- As previously explained in point 5 hall ushers will do the audio visual and stage moderators and every session logistics will be informed the exact time of a video for example and a hall usher will leave to control the lighting system if needed.

10- Any one that will come early to the hall place be sure that all the microphones are working well and ask for the wireless mic.

11- Tasks email will be cancelled but attendance email will be sent to the team ( people who will come in a certain day will have an email ) but the day coordinator will be sent to him a day before so he can be prepared.

12- Tasks will not last for the whole sessions to be sure that all members practiced every logistics job and to avoid getting bored.

13- Tasks changing will be >>> registrations will do the registration of the staff and the senators for nearly 1 hour then they will enter the hall – 1 or 2 of the hall ushers will be at the registrations desk to control the noise outside every 1 hour ( be strict also with the staff ) ,

14- It’s not preferred for any logistics member to be outside the hall only if urgently needed.
