Worked with my colleagues, under the supervision of our professors, on developing an Unmanned Aerial System from design phase to flight testing. We used new manufacturing techniques such as composite manufacturing with vacuum bagging and cutting foam with Hotwire CNC Cutting Machine. We manufactured two prototypes; one as an engineering model to test the design and the other as a final prototype after modifications. Testing the vehicles also proved that design calculations, performance analysis, and stability analysis yielded good results that were close enough to reality. I instructed the team through the project with my previous work skills and offered training in some fields to my colleagues, such as CAD modelling, mechanical design of UAV parts and composite materials manufacturing. I managed also to keep good communication with the team members and project supervisors most of the time, and I represented the team in contacting materials and services suppliers.

Participated with my colleagues to solve Jet Set Mars challenge through Cairo Space Apps at Zewail City. We chose to work on a conceptual design of a Jetpack that operates on Mars. I developed the preliminary design of the pressure-fed liquid rocket engine that propelled the vehicle. I researched the conditions on Mars to make the vehicle adaptable to its atmosphere. Moreover, I worked on the mechanical design of the tanks and the vehicle itself and developed its CAD model. Finally, I created the visual aids used in presenting the project.

Worked on setting the goals and the time-plan of each team in the lab and integrating them with those of the lab. The rest of the work was to establish a good means of communication with each team, in order to make sure all of them work in harmony and give advice and technical consultation when required.

Started working in X-Platform Summer Camp, which aims at establishing a UAS design, prototyping and control platform, by training a new team on CAD Modeling and some basic Mechanical Design skills. Then we worked on Modeling the Penguin-B UAV and manufacturing it. We further developed models for testing in the wind tunnel and for simulation using numerical analysis packages.

In this project, we intended to learn some new manufacturing techniques and overcome the problems accompanying working on medium scale UAVs. In addition, we wanted to get ourselves introduced to autonomously controlled systems design. Accordingly, we chose to build a new version on Al-Qahira 400 (a graduation project at our Dept. in 2012) using composite materials and design its autopilot. I developed the CAD model of the UAV using SolidWorks and created a video describing the project. I managed also to keep good communication between the thirteen team members and integrate their work together.

CanSat Training Program

Mar 2014

Space Systems Technology Laboratory

Attended 10 sessions introducing Arduino Microcontroller, telemetry and some basic sensors, and CanSat structure and recovery system design. My role then was to design the inner and outer structure of the satellite and its recovery system. I managed to reduce the total mass of the satellite and keep it below 100 gm and we won a prize for that (a new record in SSTLab). I used composite materials in manufacturing the outer structure of the CanSat for the first time in SSTLab.
