Freight Analyst – Job Description
Job Summary:
A Freight Analyst is responsible for evaluating and optimizing freight transportation processes by analyzing shipping costs, transit times, carrier performance, and market trends. The role involves identifying the most cost-effective and efficient shipping solutions while ensuring smooth operations in the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
- Freight Cost Analysis & Optimization
- Analyze freight rates across different shipping lines, carriers, and routes to identify the most cost-effective options.
- Monitor and track shipping expenses, ensuring they align with the company’s budget.
- Negotiate freight rates with carriers, freight forwarders, and third-party logistics providers (3PLs).
- Carrier & Shipping Line Selection
- Evaluate the performance of various shipping lines based on cost, reliability, transit times, and service quality.
- Maintain relationships with multiple carriers to ensure flexibility and competitive pricing.
- Assess the impact of fuel surcharges, port congestion, and trade route disruptions.
- Logistics & Supply Chain Support
- Collaborate with procurement, logistics, and supply chain teams to ensure timely and efficient product movement.
- Provide insights on freight availability and market conditions to avoid disruptions.
- Recommend strategies for reducing transit times and improving delivery reliability.
- Market & Risk Analysis
- Track global freight market trends, fuel prices, and geopolitical factors affecting shipping.
- Assess risks related to delays, supply chain disruptions, and compliance regulations.
- Suggest alternative routes or modes of transportation when necessary.
- Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Maintain reports on freight expenses, delivery performance, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Utilize freight analytics tools and dashboards to provide insights to management.
- Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure carrier efficiency and identify areas for improvement.
Job Requirements
Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or a related field.
- Experience: 2-5 years of experience in logistics, transportation, or freight analysis.
- Skills:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in freight rate analysis and logistics software (TMS, ERP).
- Negotiation skills for dealing with shipping lines and freight forwarders.
- Ability to work with large datasets and generate reports.
- Knowledge of international shipping regulations and Incoterms.
