Job Description

  • We are looking for an experienced Head of Discipline and Guidance Department to join our Madinaty Integrated Language School.
  • The coordinator (Discipline) provides direction and leadership for the overall administration and coordination of the Student Discipline department to ensure a safe, disciplined learning environment.
  • This position engages in overseeing the establishment, implementation, adherence to state policies, and school board policies and procedures regarding student discipline and Title IX.

Duties:

• Coordinates, supervises, and monitors the district’s policies, practices, and protocols related to student discipline and placement.

• Convenes, chairs, and participates on student behavior committees, providing student disciplinary opinions on an ongoing basis 

• Coordinates and facilitates the student discipline hearing process, including notifications to stakeholders, preparation of correspondence, agreements, and opinions on behalf of the school system in connection with student disciplinary hearings; secures court reporting and/or manages digital recording systems, hearing officer, and other support services 

• Coordinates placement or referrals of students from the hearing process, from completion of long-term suspension or expulsion period and alternate school program, and from transfer of students not in good standing at the previous school

• Ensures annual preparation and printing of student handbook, including student behaviour code, to be distributed by schools on the first day of school.

• Prepares and presents cases and recommendations of administration in the Student Disciplinary Tribunal hearings or coordinates with school administration to do the same. 

• Provides training to administrators and hearing officers regarding the student disciplinary hearing process. 

• Serves as Chair of Behavior Code Committee, coordinating and facilitating meetings and activities. 

• Communicates the student administrative processes and best practices and other student information processes to staff and the general public. 

• Supervises and evaluates the Office of Student Discipline Staff.

• Research issues related to student discipline and placement and prepares documents for administrative hearings

 • Collaborates with other departments to ensure a comprehensive approach to discipline and behavior is in place. 

• Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator of their representative

Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an educational-related field required 
  • Master’s degree preferred

Certification/license: 

  • Must have or be able to obtain a GA Leadership Certification or Support License.

Work experience:

  • 3 years of supervisory experience in related field required
  • Principal experience preferred
  • Knowledge of best practices in supporting students with behavior challenges
  • Ability to problem-solve with school-based and district teams
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents, colleagues, and community members
  • Ability to effectively consult and collaborate with school leaders in processes related to student support services.
  • Ability to provide technical assistance
  • Ability to plan, develop, and present professional learning to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with various stakeholder groups (district staff, school staff, and parents)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Possesses strong leadership traits with the ability to lead people and provide direction
  • Takes initiative, detailed oriented, and is highly organized
  • This position requires a high level of confidentiality, sense of urgency, excellent organizational and communication skills, and attention to detail and/or ongoing follow-up as needed.
  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance in-person or virtually and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours, and as needed
