Position Title:                                                        Classroom Assistant

ROLE SUMMARY & JOB PURPOSE  

We are seeking an outstanding, committed and energetic Classroom Assistant to join King’s School The Crown to start in August 2023. The ideal candidate must be a caring, child-centered, hard-working, and resilient individual with a motivation to be a positive role model and make a difference in the lives of vulnerable young children. The Classroom Assistant must be able to support the social and personal needs of pupils, which ensures that they have a safe and healthy environment in which to learn and develop.

Job Requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Although this list is not exhaustive, the position holder will be responsible for the following:

  1. To support students in providing for their personal care including manual handling, support in eating, drinking and using the toilet.
  2. To work alongside the teacher and the teaching and learning support assistant to maintain a purposeful, orderly, supportive and safe environment.
  3. To assist with the development of resources for teaching activities, alongside the classroom team.
  4. To take part in team meetings, reporting on pupil performance.
  5. To supervise students during leisure time including on the playground.
  6. To be aware of the school safeguarding policies and procedures and report immediately to the class teacher and or the head teacher any concerns about a student’s wellbeing.
  7. To take photographs and videos to record progress.
  8. Follow Health and Safety procedures and report issues promptly.
  9. To undertake flexibly any other reasonable requests made by the head teacher, head of department or class teacher in line with the duties of support staff.

Qualifications and Accreditations
  • A good standard of general secondary education or relevant higher-level qualification or vocational training which can be practically applied to supporting pupil development.
  • Previous experience of working with children preferably in an educational setting.
Personal Competencies and Attributes
  • Must be physically fit and willing to undertake all aspects of the role including assisting with the personal care and medical needs of the students.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written, in a confident and positive manner.
  • Must be calm, patient, with good team working skills.
  • A demonstrable passion for students with special educational needs.
  • Confident, presentable, articulate and dynamic personality.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • A positive attitude to change
  • A continuous improvement mindset.
