Job Description

Purpose of the position

A Receivable Accountant ensures his company receives payments for services and records these transactions accordingly. Securing revenue by verifying and posting receipts, and resolving any discrepancies. Generates revenue for companies by ensuring that clients are properly billed for goods or services. Works with other departments to ensure that the correct amounts are collected in a timely manner, verify and record transactions, resolve account discrepancies, and perform other tasks to secure client payments. Issues an invoice or billing statement for each payment due to a company, track incoming cash flow, and report late transactions.

  • Obtaining information from other departments to ensure records are accurate and complete and that accounts receivable ledgers and journals are up-to-date.
  • Working with the collections department to review accounts, client payments, and credit history, and develop new or better repayment terms.
  • Performing administrative and clerical tasks, such as data entry, preparing invoices, sending bill reminders, filing paperwork, and contacting clients to discuss their accounts.
  • Facilitate collection from overdue accounts as necessary
  • Maintain precise records of all incoming payments
  • Prepare and send invoices to clients
  • Maintain accounts receivable records to ensure aging is up to date, credits and collections are applied, uncollectible amounts are accounted for, and miscellaneous differences are cleared
  • Perform daily cash management duties, including the recording of bank deposits, updating and distribution of cash receipt logs, and posting of cash to the accounts receivable sub-ledger
  • Monitor and collect accounts receivable by contacting clients via telephone, email, and mail
  • Prepare analytical and ratio analyses relevant to A/R so management can gain a better understanding of how collection efforts are progressing
  • Maintains and updates customer files, including name or address changes, mergers, or mailing attentions.
  • Drafts correspondence for standard past-due accounts and collections identifies delinquent accounts by reviewing files, and contacts delinquent account holders to request payment.
  • Creates reports regarding the current status of customer accounts as requested.
  • Assists in generating monthly billing statements based on the general ledger.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Engaging in ongoing educational opportunities to update job knowledge.
  • Work collaboratively with accounts payable and other accounting staff to ensure accuracy in finances.
  • Audit all receipts on a determined schedule to ensure accuracy in accounting.
  • Investigating and resolving any irregularities or inquiries. 
  • Processing, verifying, and posting receipts for services rendered.
  • Contact clients as needed to ensure payment of outstanding invoices.
  • Generate and deliver reports to different departments as needed.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Strong math, typing, and computer skills, especially with bookkeeping software.
  • Experience with account reconciliation
  • Experience with invoicing and data entry software
  • Proficiency with all standard accounting and presentation software and platforms.
  • An ability to prioritize and manage expectations.
  • A keen eye for detail.
  • An ability to work independently.
